Machine quilting got a new kenmore (not computerized) for christmas last year and I'm now trying to machine quilt with it. there are no instructions and the embroidery attachment that I had for my old machine will not fit. I've tried dropping the feed dogs (no movement at all and the thread gets chewed up completely). Raised feed dogs and removed presser foot, nope, I want to be able to stipple which means my fabric needs to be able to move freely in all directions and it's definitely not doing that. ???

To stipple ,remove the ankle and foot, lower the feed dogs and, most importantly, lower the presser foot lever.
You can also buy a LOW SHANK darning foot which will help prevent skipped stitches. It must be screwed onto the machine instead of snapping on.

Can a Brother 416A single head emb. machine be used for quilting and can I get longer needles for this?

First, use only the needles recommended for your machine unless you want a big repair charge.

Second, your machine is an embroidery machine, not a sewing machine. About the only way you can use it for quilting is if you want to embroidery designs on quilt tops.

Brother BAS 416A Instruction Manual Page 8

If you want to piece quilts, you might look for an older mechanical sewing machine (ie Kenmore, Singer, Viking, Bernina, etc) that you probably pick up for $100 or less. Basically, you can make quilts with a straight-stitch sewing machine, so zig-zag or multiple decorative stitches are not needed for quilting.

CAN THE KENMORE 15208 BE USED TO QUILT

I would suggest light quilting, like making quilt squares. I wouldn't try to put both side togeather with batting on the machine. but this is just my opinion.

If you didn't get the Quilting package with it, you will have to purchase a 1/4" foot. Hope this helps.

Free motion quilting on a kenmore 19606 sewing machine

Did you remember to put down the presser foot? I know that sounds silly but that is the one thing people forget the most when doing free motion.

How do I quilt on my 9000

Your question is a little vague... Put simply, here is how to make a quilt. Start by putting 2 pieces of material (good sides together) and sew a 1/4 inch seam. Keep on adding pieces until you have a quilt.

Kenmore 19233 computerized sewing machine

On my machine I find that my bottom and top free motion stitches are more uniform when I set my needle thread tension at 8 or 9. Also, you might want to use a top stitch needle.

Good luck,
