Problems with 52in HDTV

TV comes on, but everything is in 3D. Does this mean the picture tube is bad? What is the problem and how expensive would it be to get it fixed?

This a projection television! and it does have conversion IC's and settings!
but if you never went into the settings and never changed anything then resistors on the conversion IC's chips are bad and you may also need new conversion IC's
this will show you that you do have conversion

NO this is a condition known as convergence problems. first question in menu then go to setup and see if the option of convergence is in the menu. is the picture bowed in from the top and bottom. do you have the option of autoconvergence. does it work and how far does it get. there is a common problem with these sets. and may be a simple fix if you can solder a part. so let me know and we will continue to troubleshoot.

The itc222 chasis or t d52w59 Does not contain the standard convergence chips. Since you do not have the convergence option under the. i would suspect that you might have what is known as the fl231 fuse problem. i have wrote a article on this problem. it is quite common and i see it all the time at the shop. look under my profile in tips and tricks for the fl231 article. if you can solder this can be a simple inexpensive repair

  • Willie Howell Oct 29, 2008

if you do not have this convergence option then i would almost gaurante you have a blown fl231 fuse. this little special fuse can be bought at union electronics or anywhere that sells parts for rca. Consult the fl231 poblem under tips and trick section of my profile for detailed instruction for repair. If you are not electronic tech. try to find one someone that can solder,,, we charge at our shop 150 for something that is as easy as 5 dollars and no more than an hour

Hi Rafael,

First of all thank you for posting your question here at Fixya.
Please confirm if the brand and model number above is correct.
Blinking of the the LED (yellow and blue) at the front panel indicating that the lamp door cover is not seated properly. This cover will engaged to a micro switch giving the signal to the processor, once it is in open position, the unit will not power up and will experienced that kind of blinking error code. Go back to the lamp door cover and ensure that it is properly seat-in.
3D, 2D, red/green/blue ghost on the picture and letters means that the convergence circuitry gone bad. Symptoms is not connected to the light engine. The faulty parts is the convergence chips(IC). This chips are mounted on the large aluminum heat sink and starts with STKXXXX-XX (X means number). The most common STK chips used on Projection TV's is the STK392-110. You have to replaced them both on the board to resolve the issue(red ghosting). It is necessary also to check the resistance value of the resistors around its circuitry using the multimeter. For more info how to repair a convergence problem, watch the video below.

There is red and blue lines around screen and images. (Almost looks like it should be 3d). Does this mean it needs a new lamp/bulb? It is only 6 years old. What is the cost for the part? Thank you

If model number is as listed (46f500) it does not use a lamp or bulb but has three picture tubes.

3d means the two convergence chips in the set have failed.

It depends on if you can solder etc, not a very expensive parts cost (under 30 dollars)

Can you solder?

Philips 55P8288A tv has a dull color and a red hue.

This sounds Like the the coolant for your piture tube has become cloudy and needs replacement (usually blue or green tube - thats why the image seems ovrely red). It's a big job (labour wise) since completee dissassembly is required ($200-300). It can be done youreself - check out TVrepairkits.com to get the coolant and instructions.
You can confirm that this is the problem by dissassembling the unit to the point where you can view the face of the CRT's (red green and blue) directly.
