Yes, you need a puller:

1 Remove the Nylock nut and washer (3/4 socket)
2 Pull the wheel with a 2 tooth wheel puller

Hi Rob....I had the same problem with my 1170. Your problem is probably worn motor brushes. Replacing the brushes will most likely fix your problem.

if i remember correctly there should be a single nut holding that tire on,use a rubber hammer and hit drive shaft and pull on tire at same time with other hand,it should move out far enough to get a large wrench behind the tire and push toward chair untill tire comes off

I have a Invacare 3G Storm Arrow with GB motors. The left motor acts like a wheelbearing is bad. I lifted it and shook the wheel and to my surprise the 4 bolts that hold the hub on shook with the hud but...

Norm, the wheel is held on the axle by the center bolt. The 4 bolts that rattle hold the rim together (it is a split rim to remove the tire easier) these bolts should not be loose. Remove the center bolt and slide the tire off the axle (make sure the keyway stays on the axle or in the hub) tighten the 4 bolts and reinstall on your axle this should fix your problem. Hope this helps
