Question about Gateway MX6438 Notebook

Gateway 6438 System Slow down

My gateway laptop has slowed significantly after I stopped a DVD while in use. I cleaned up my start up menu but it still takes about 2 minutes for start up. Additionally my sound sounds distorted. I am using windows XP. No yellow error messages appear on my hardware profile when i check into system. I have added 1 gig of memory to increase speed but this appears to have slowed the system more. I have ran virus scans and ran the standard system clean ups to no avail. Any solutions?

    1)Clean the Temp folder - C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Temp
    2)Delete unused user profiles
3)Uninstall unused programsfrom Control Panel, Programs, Programs and Features
4)Run CCleaner - http://download.cnet.com/CCleaner/(This should clean up some of those extra caches, temporary files, log files, and other things strewn about your system)
    5)Run Anti-Virus Scan
6)You might also want to take a look at your start-up items in msconfigand uncheck options you don't need. This'll decrease your computer's boot time significantly, not to mention free up a few resources
7)Remove programs in Start-up Folder (Start, All Programs, Startup)

I have an ASUS G71GX Laptop that I have sent in for repair TWICE now and it still has not been fixed. So here is the problem: My laptop used to just occasionally jump from A/C Mode to Battery mode....

- With that problem i would recommend a motheboard replacement for your asus inlcuding the power cords to rectify the issue. - before sending this to replace the motherboard backup all your files and save it into an external hdd/ dvd disc - Windows reinstallation is need after replacing the mainboard. -that should solve your problem.

CX 2620 is slow...I have installed MS Office 2007 and the performance is significantly lower on the Laptop,,,should I add Memory?

Hi there.
Its always a good idea to max out the ram (memory) if you are using power applications like MS Office 2007, the maximum memory your laptop will take is 2GB (2x1BG) and i recommend kingston ram as its one of the best out there.

Good luck and thanks for using FixYa!!

HELP! My laptop is REALLY slow...

hi,
is the cd/dvd working now after removing upper and lower filters, if it is that is good,
when does your computer freeze can you associate it with some activity that you are doing on it,
does it give any error when it freezes any blue screen error

when you deleted upper and lower filters did the notebook started to freeze right after that or it worked fine for some time,

try restarting your system in safe mode and see if it freezes there
to go into safe mode
restart your system> at gateway logo > start tapping F8 > in this menu select safe mode and try using it in safe mode

tell me what happens so that i can help you further
