Problems on my Minolta A1

Hi there here is hoping somebody can help me. I last used the camera two weeks ago and all was fine,on using it last night all images were a mass of lines as the enclossed image hopefully shows. I have shot in all modes ,camera quality settings etc, also i have tried different camera cards and batteries, even leaving it without batteries overnight but to no avail. When using in movie mode the camera works normally and clips can be played back normally. I have had the camera for nearly 3 years and taken thousands of trouble freeshots with it any advise would be greatfully appreciated. Kind regards Andrew Rank

Sony bought-out Minolta so the CCD warranty service might be offered by Sony. Go to the link below and try to get them to cover the CCD warranty. Otherwise, Sony is the only source of repair since they're not selling any parts for it. http://eservice.sony.com/webrma/web/index.do

Replace the CCD. According to consumer reports, some manufacturers are extending their cameras' warranties because of the frequency of this failure. Check out this information describing consumer reports' information on the failure of the CCD. http://www.imaging-resource.com/NEWS/1128958202.html Good luck, Myles

What is the biggest size memory card for my Dimage A1 Minolta Camera?

An older camera, the DiMage A1 came with a 16mb card. Some cameras are picky about which cards work best. Compact Flash cards are sold in different speeds and your camera may work faster with a faster card. This camera can use Compact Flash type I or type II, and is compatible with the microdrive card. Since this camera was introduced the capacities of Compact Flash cards have increased dramatically so I believe you should be able to use a larger card with no problems but I would check out some of the online photography sites to read about other's experiences. Here is one good resource:

Dimage a1 switches on, can view photos on play back but wont show image in view finder or rear screen or take photographs

Hi prune_muffin, my Konica Minolta A1 camera failed during 2007 with those exact symptoms. The sensor used in the A1 and many other cameras/camcorders of that vintage were made by Sony and have been recognised as subject to failure due to an Integrated Circuit packaging failure. Sony bought the KM company and from April 2006 have aranged support for KM products. Sony have generously offered to repair failed cameras of that era, at no charge, when the failure is due to a failed Sony sensor. My camera was repaired by the appointed Australian service company and returned within 3 weeks - I only paid the postage to send it in for repair.
You should make enquiries re your camera problem with the Sony Camera Support Center in your location.

Viewfinder shows only streaks

if the pictures are like that as well, chances are your CCD sensor is on the way out. if only on the viewfinder (so pictures are OK) it may well be the display of the viewfinder that is also known to give problems although much less... however, if the viewfinder is the problem you should be OK to use the cam. in case you did not replace the CCD, i would be careful spending any money. i am now trying to get the 3rd CCD in my cam... they are really a problem.... I have 2 of these and they seem to keep on failing on the CCD's. pity, since i really love this camera...

Camera doesn't acknowledge card when inserted into camera

Hi

Whats the capacity of your memory card? check for compatibility of card, since memory cards that have 4gb to 8gb are not compatible with some cameras. check as well from your cameras manufacturer if they have a firmware that will support such cards for your device/camera.

Hope this helps

Sounds like a CCD fault. Many A1 users, including myself, have had this. Allegedly, Sony, who made and fitted the CCD sensors, had a manufacturing "issue" at the time. Many A1s were recalled and others, including mine, have been successfully repaired free of charge by Sony on request. I suggest that you contact your vendor or a local repair shop to discover whether this service is (still?) available in your location. It's well worth the effort as this is a fine camera. Good luck.

Lcd black, but can hear the picture being taken

This is part of a known problem with the SONY image sensors that operate the lcd. There is in fact a recall that will replace the bad componets. You need to contact SONY for repairs. Check out this website to learn more about your problem. http://www.imaging-resource.com/badccds.html

you have installed a conflicting software, the other one overrides your minolta software and kick your minolta out of your computer. the only method I always use is to format the computer, maybe you installed a kodak software meant to work in other os such as windows xp.
