Question about PC Desktops

Can not get E-Mail and my "Comcast" Tech said perhaps I need to down load an up date for my router. I have a router purchased 15 Nov 2004, ser #c213oD654496 which is a model befsr41 ver 3. There are two computers connected thru the router. Can you advise me about any updates? Thank you for your time, Bob Worthington, bobworth@comcast.net. Now how do I get your note when my E-mail does not work, but I can get to the internet? My comcast.net tech advisor indicated that microsoft had an update and this changed all log in and pass words. Can this be correct? Or did comcast just blow some smoke?

For one: Routers are not too expensive now if you are using a basic plug in type. I have found them as cheap as 25 dollars. If its a Linksys Router, then go to that website and find the router in their files and then get the drivers for it, anything else, suggestion is as above, Buy a new one.

2: Comcast is not . i repeat, not the greatest people to trust on all information. I know, because i worked for them 5 years ago when i wasnt as well trained. They do not always know what they are talking about. Unless the mail account in question is directly from Microsoft, their updates would Not effect your Password and Login, and they would offer a way to retreive or reset the information to be used again.

3: I always use an outside Email address than the one that i am given from Internet Provider. Just simplier and less problematic. Yahoo, Gmail, Hotmail, all are good ones to use. all have nice options for spam block, and all are free. Otherwise, search out smaller companies that offer Pop-Mail server accounts on limited storage space for free or very little money per month

Ask COMCAST for the names of their POP-server and of their MAIL-server, and configure Outlook Express to use those names.

Microsoft Live Mail is "web-based" -- all you need to do is to web-surf to their web-site, login, and click "send/receive" or click "compose" and later "send".

Browser and email continuously won't load


I would have to say this is a problem with Comcast, call them and ask for a line test, tell them that you are having this problem on multiple computers, and you have even tried connecting directly to the modem. If they can run a test on the line, hopefully that will shed some light on the issue.

Often times with Cable/Phone companies, the right hand doesn't know what the left is doing, be instant that they check, at the very least they can check connection to your modem from their end.

Since you have a new modem the DI-604 needs to be reconfigure to work with the new modem , if you have the setup CD for the router yuo can just simply run it so it will configure the router to work with the new modem but if not you can manually configure the router by accessing its setup page where youc an do some changes on the router settings including the internet connection settings if you're not familiar on how to do that it will be better if you can contact a tech support group that can walk you through with the process, you can contact this number for help 1-877-787-8749 they are open 24/7....

Overheating and shutting down


Re-load it. OR Take it apart and clean it. Dust is clogging the heatsink by the processor. AMD OR PENTIUM?

TRY RUNNING SPYBOT S&D and ADAWARE 2007 to remove spyware (Change to the highest that you can. SPYBOT S&D can shut down things in start-up in Advanced mode. Download THE FREE Norton from the Google package and let it run.
