Hi,

Initially, pls determine/verify that the SimpleTech SimpleDrive External 400GB hard drive is actually being recognized by the USB port as an external storage device. This may be a case where the program is (StorageSync) is running but the USB does not recognize the external storage and hence program could not save in destination drive. SHould this be the case, USB issue, then rtecommended course of action would be to initially resolve the USB driver/recognition rather than the StorageSync program.

Hope that this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards. Thank you for using FixYa.

If that message came on again, press CTRL+ALT+DEL on your keyboard to open up task manager and try to look for the StorageSync then end the process after that you can now try to Open up StorageSync and that should be working fine now....

Go to task Manager > processes tab and find the StorageSync program and end process. Unplug the drive, shut down the PC, replug and start up the Pc and try again.

Need software for simple tech 96300-40001

That software is not required for operation of the drive; however, you're more than welcome to download it here:http://www.hgst.com/support/index-files/simpletech-legacy-downloads#storagesync

Click the blue link that says STORAGESYNC BACKUP SOFTWARE VERSION 1.42.

Then open the compressed (ZIP) folder and then double-click on the program file and click Setup... then go through the short install process to get that software on your computer.

Keep in mind that you don't need a program like that; Windows already has backup software built into the operating system which you can check out more info about here: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/products/features/backup-and-restore

Is it okay to use a 14-17 volt power cord for a Simpletech External Hard Drive?

The SimpleDrive requires a 12V/2A tip positive power supply. A 14-17V supply might work, but you run the risk of damaging your drive.

General questions regarding simpletech simpledrive.

You probably have to initialize and/or format the drive.

Right click my computer and click Manage (assuming windows xp)

Go to disk management

See if you see the drive listed somewhere there. Should show approximately 950gb disk drive

If so right click that drive listed and choose either format, or create partition.

If you create the parttiion, make sure to click quick format, otherwise it will take a long time.

Hope this helps
