Have the SimpleTech SimpleDrive External 400GB hard drive. When I click on StorageSync I get the message "Program is already running. Can't create process". Don't know what to do? Any help?

Hi,

Initially, pls determine/verify that the SimpleTech SimpleDrive External 400GB hard drive is actually being recognized by the USB port as an external storage device. This may be a case where the program is (StorageSync) is running but the USB does not recognize the external storage and hence program could not save in destination drive. SHould this be the case, USB issue, then rtecommended course of action would be to initially resolve the USB driver/recognition rather than the StorageSync program.

Hope that this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

If that message came on again, press CTRL+ALT+DEL on your keyboard to open up task manager and try to look for the StorageSync then end the process after that you can now try to Open up StorageSync and that should be working fine now....

Disconnect the external drive and then reconnect it again and then try from starting to sync.

Go to task Manager > processes tab and find the StorageSync program and end process. Unplug the drive, shut down the PC, replug and start up the Pc and try again.

Ihave Simpledrive 500GB external hard drive but now all of a sudden my PC does not recognize it when I go to my computer and look for it


If you have a SimpleTech SimpleDrive connected to your computer and you're experiencing problems with the external hard drive, there may be several reasons why it's malfunctioning. Troubleshooting your computer can help rule out common problems and the possibility that the hard drive may be defective. If you recently purchased the device and suspect there is something wrong with it, return the defective drive to SimpleTech or the reseller for a replacement.

Incompatible USB Port Problems W 7 First, please disconnect all USB devices and then perform the following steps:


Click "Start" button, type "devmgmt.msc" (without quotation marks) in the "Search" bar and press "Enter". Click "Continue" if necessary.


In Device Manager, double click to expand "Universal Serial Bus controllers", right click on the Host Controller, click "Uninstall" and click "OK".


Repeat the step 2 to uninstall all items under "Universal Serial Bus controllers".



Then, restart your computer and Windows 7 will reinstall all USB controllers automatically. for XP or earlier click start right click on computer select properties device manager scroll down universal serial bus controllers you could see a yellow question / exclamation mark? ! or a red X you will need to update/reinstall drivers right click to reinstall drivers if you can see your usb drive but its not working ports (com&lpt) right click update driver if this fails to fix the problem Check the USB leads that attach to the motherboard usually red white green black make sure they are securely seated and have no dust build up on them dust will cause static and a lot of unforeseen problems to a computer and its parts b> SimpleTech SimpleDrive plug and play options makes it easy for you to connect the device to your computer. But you may encounter problems if your computer's USB (Universal Serial Bus) ports are not compatible with the external hard drive. Make sure your ports are powerful enough to operate the drive. USB 2.0 ports are recommended, but if you're using an older computer with 1.0 ports, the hard drive will function much slower or you may receive an error message that the device is not compatible with your system. b> Missing External Drive Letter b> If you're unable to find the SimpleTech external hard drive's letter on your desktop after you have installed the drivers for the device, it's possible that the external drive may be assigned to another drive. Sometimes, the hard drive is assigned to a network drive and you may need to manually change the drive's letter in Disk Management. Enable Drive Letter View b> Click the "Start" button and choose "Control Panel" from the start menu. Click "Folder Options" and navigate to the "View" tab. Scroll down and place a mark next to "Show drive letters," then click "OK." b> Configuring Drive Manager b> Click the "Start" button to launch the start menu. Right-click "Computer" and choose "Manage" from the menu. Click "Storage" in the menu on the right side to extend the section. Click "Disk Management" under the "Storage" header. This will show you a list of drives and removable storage on your computer. It will also report the status of the drives, such as "Healthy." If the removable storage does not have a drive letter or has a drive letter in conflict with another drive, you can assign it a new letter. If the external hard drive is not formatted correctly for your system, it may not function or work properly. b> External Hard Drive Inaccessible b> If you receive an error message that says "Drive Inaccessible," the SimpleTech SimpleDrive may not be able to read the service area of the platter. If the external hard drive emits a loud or abnormal sound, this could mean the device is failing. Test the drive on another computer to see if it is working properly. Otherwise, the external hard drive's surface area may be damaged or corrupted. b> Replacing a Defective Hard Drive b> You can return a defective hard drive that is under warranty to SimpleTech. The manufacturer will exchange the device if the seal is not broken. But if you break or tear the seal on the case, any warranty claims will not be accepted and the device will be returned back to you. SimpleTech will only accept the device if you contracted a commercial data recovery company to retrieve critical data from the external hard drive and the seal needed to be broken. Before returning the defective drive, you will need to secure a RMA (Return Merchandise Authorization) approval number from SimpleTech and furnish any invoices or documentation regarding the data recovery company's services. Hi,

Actually, the word "back up" is just for all you data, not software.
Because software, you need to re-install and re-configure it.
So, you said anti virus and mozilla, it is software, not data.
Try to download the installer and re-install it.

Computer not recognizing external Hard Drive


Aren't usb drives fun? Anyway, there are a few points where this can break down. Your external drive is actually made up of a few parts. It has a normal hard drive, and either what is called a "SATA to USB Bridge" or a "IDE to USB Bridge". If it is a full desktop size hard drive, it will come with a power supply that you plug into the back of the drive. If you have a laptop hard drive it can be powered through the usb port.

When you plug it in, the computer should recognize that you plugged in a new device and show you a message saying found new hardware, found usb to ata bridge, found disk drive etc. in that order. If you get these messages and still no hard drive shows up in my computer, then you may need to assign a letter to the drive or even format it. Right click on the "My Computer" icon, then select "Manage". On the right hand side of the window that appeared, double click storage, then disk management. It should list all drives attached to the computer. Your TB drive should show up as a removable disk, and should already have a partition. If it does not have a partition, you will have to partition it. Just right click on the rectangular part (on the right side) and select format. If you cant format it, try right clicking on the left hand side, the square bit, and select initialize. Then format.

If you just need to set a drive letter, right click on the rectangular part and select 'change drive letters and paths"

Here are some other things that can go wrong:

Not enough power, the drive isn't getting enough power and cant mount. Try plugging in the power adapter that came with it or try a different usb port. If it came with one of those funny looking Y shaped usb cables, plug both ends into the computer, so that it can get enough power.

Bad hardware, either the hard drive or the bridge is bad.

Then you need to return it to the store you got it from. If that is not possible you may be able to pull the drive out of the enclosure and use it as an internal drive.

Bad USB ports.

This can be hardware or software. If other usb devices work fine then this is probably not the case.

When you backup your software, you need to backup the installation files, not the software once it is installed as the installation procedure places various files within the Windows system folders. Simply restoring the backed up files will not re-install that software. You should back up your data files etc but the software on your old drive will need to be re-installed from scratch.

400GB Freecom external hard drive stops functioning itself.


I assume you are running windows operating system. You need to uninstall all your usb devices. Go to computer manager/device manager and select all USB devices and unistall them. Go to the start menu, click on run type compmgmt.msc. Find all your USB devices on the right side. Follow the instructions for each device to uninstall them by double clicking and then select uninstall. once you uninstall, click on the icon to scan for hardware changes located on the sub menu. Your operating system should recognize new hardware or reboot and the operating system should install them automatically again. After you reboot, logon do not connect the harddrive until you are logged in completely. The operating system should recognize a new device and install it automatically. I hope it helps.

Freecom 400GB Hard drive not recognized.its a Freecom mobile drive xxs 400gb , my pc just cant recgnize the hard drive


I'll assume your using Windows.
I'll assume it's a USB drive.
I'll assume it is an external drive.
And I'll assume it's formatted as NTFS.

Try using the USB (or FireWire) port for anouther drive to see if that is the problem, if it is then reinstall the driver for the port, through the Computer Managment Concole (assuming yur using windows).

If you formatted the drive as FAT, re-format it as NTFS.

External USB hard drive


My guess is that the pc is trying to use a drive letter that is already taken. Make sure the drive is plugged in. Goto Start -> run -> type compmgmt.msc and hit enter. Click on disk management. You should see the drive in the list. Right-click the external drive and click change driver letter. choose a letter that is not already taken. that should do it..

With the usb drive connected to the pc,

Open my computer, there will be a new drive listed there (ie: f: ) or something like that.. This is your usb driver.. double click on that, and in there, there should be a setup.exe file, double click that to install Arcsoft.
