Question about Computer Speakers
I bought these speakes with my Dell 4500 back in 2003.....They slowly started fading in and out and now at maximum level, they are barely heard. What happened? What can I do? How do I do it other than paying somebody a ton of money?
I had the same problem w ith mine
Before giving up on them I decided i had nothing to lose by pulling them apart
Remove the base and screw hidden behind, reove the mesh cover and 4 screws hidden behind
Prise off the volume knob then unscrew the circuit board the vol control is fixed to
Now try the speaker whilst in bits
Mine miraculously worked at full volume straight away
I reasembled them and now they are fine
Just lucky maybe, who knows...but definately worth atry before you bin them

I had the same problem, low volume with the control knob turn all the way up. I found the plug coming from the speaker with the volume control was bad. In the center of the plug there is a small rectangle shape piece of metal that plugs in. It was lose and when I touch it it broke off. There for I could not find a plug at Radio Shack, So I bought a speaker off of ebay, it has work great for a year now. Also you could wire this speaker direct to the sub woofer if you didn't want to but another speaker. Doug
