Your fridge may be overheating from an electrical short causing the fridge to go into auto shutdown so that it will not catch fire. You will need to get it checked up in a shop to confirm the suspicion and to get it fixed.

The cooling system and the water dispenser operate and are electrically fed independently. I would say your problem is in the power feed to the unit. Check to make sure you have a good power source.

The most common fridge "not cooling" problem is a frost free failure. Remove the access panel in the freezer section to expose the evaporator coils. If the coils in the freezer section get plugged up with frost, this frost will block the evaporator fan motor from blowing the cold air around. The fan blade can also hit this frost and either become noisy or stop altogether. Locating the defrost timer can be tricky....they are often hidden behind the back bottom corners of the fridge at the bottom, in the last few years the timers have been located in the ceiling of the fresh food section, and some behind the cold control cover. Once you locate the defrost timer, slowly turn the screw like wheel in the middle of the defrost timer with a straight screwdriver until the fridge shuts off. You are now in defrost. If the defrost heater(s) comes on now, replace the defrost timer and defrost thermostat. If the heater(s) does not come on, you can ohm test the defrost heater for continuity or volt test for 120 volts to the heater(s). If you have no power to the defrost heater(s) you can also bypass the defrost thermostat to see if the defrost heater will come on, join the 2 wires together to bypass the defrost thermostat. If the heater now comes on, replace the defrost timer and defrost thermostat. If the heater itself is bad, defrost the fridge with a hair dryer, replace the defrost heater* and defrost thermostat. If the defrost timer seems "hot" to the touch or is noisy ( like a ticking or screeching noise )...replace it

The water dispenser and the compressor are separate circuits, check if the fridge has power or has no power at all during the time it is idle, test on a different power outlet.

Hi, faults that can cause the fridge to stop cooling for a time can concern wiring, thermostat, defrost timer, compressor.
The most common is probably a faulty thermostat, that stops the fridg for cooling and starts when temperature is too high.
The pump to the water dispenser may be an unrelated problem, if it happens exactly at the same time when the fridge stops cooling, than that is weird, as the pump is on a separate circuit. If it is related it may be a bad wiring that shorts and stop some functions of the fridge.
More likely the problems are unrelated, and the dispenser stops either because the lines are freeezing, or because the solenoid is defective or the pump is faulty.

Here you find diagrams and a replacement thermostat.

If you want to call a technician you can use the number listed on the owner manual.

The ice dispenser and water dispenser on the door will not work

"Prepare for the worst" This is a problem i'm currently dealing with at the moment, ice maker thaw'd and refroze the ice as a block, binding the crusher turbine till it quit working. then water dispenser started spitting till it quit working, but anyway i disconnected the ice maker and water dispenser power hookup, because when i tried to use it it was drawing off the power of the fridge. now i'm to the point where fridge clicks like the relay is going out. in the back of the freezer below the ice maker tray i removed the clip or screw to where when it clicks i can hand spin the cooling fan on the click, and fridge starts up and runs, but don't remove this panel because having it on helps the air push into fridge compartment and keeps cooling elements from turning to a block of ice, " so long story short " its either your cooling fan or relay on chip board that starts cooling fan, i'm no expert but this is where i'm at hope it helps.

My Aman side by side quit dispensing water. It

Does your fridge have a small tank inside the food compartment? If so, the water may have frozen in the tank and the problem can be solved if you take a blow dryer and warm the tank. That's what happened to mine and with a temp adjustment to keep the food compartment a bit warmer, the water doesn't freeze.

Not getting any water out of the dispenser, but its making ice

The water dispenser on my GE profile fridge stopped working for a couple days. The refrigerator and freezer temperatures have fluctuated over the past several months causing fridge items to periodically freeze and freezer items to periodically thaw. GE tech came today identified a bad circuit board, which he replaced for a cool $300. Ouch. Fridge is only three years old. Oh yeah, the icemaker also has a broken tab which causes it to jam every couple weeks. We have GE Profile appliances throughout our kitchen and they all work great except for the fridge :-( I hope GE engineers read this post. If so, get to work! LOL

Water dispenser is not working no water dispenser

If the light is dimming when you try to get ice (dimming then getting bright in cycles) then thisis a common problem and GE will fix it. The Main circuit board on the back goes bad causing the ice\water dispenser to quit working then eventually the fridge quits cooling. Call 800-386-1215 and tell them the problem. There is a recall for the board

Sounds like you have a defrost problem. The timer could be playing up and taking too long to defrost, which causes the evaporator to ice up, hence no cold air to the fridge and the water line freezes up, hence no water dispensed. When the timer does eventually defrost the fridge then everything returns to normal. This could also be caused by a faulty defrost terminator or bad connection on the defrost element.

Mullion heater connection for Amana 84" Integrated bottom mount refer model B136CAR3 mfg P1318402W. I need to hook up the mullion heater that is under the freezer, component P/N 12401301. But I cannot find the mullion heater connection point. According to the specs it's installed in the foam and not wired from the factory and is for service purposes. The reason for this is that the water from the defrost cycle re-freezes and clogs the drain hole. Eventually the ice gets almost an inch thick and it's SOLID. The freezer drawer cannot open, so I have to thaw it all out and pry it open. I've done this dozens of times over the years! The service tech never figured it out. But with help of my boat-refer-expert brother we found the solution at the high level. Devil is in the details. According to the instructions: make a slit and peel back the white vinyl harness sleeve that goes to the water valve, pull out two wires (black and white) that aren't connected to anything (yet). Then "locate the mullion heater leads at the left side of the cabinet and connect to the back and white leads". Then Wrap vinyl sleeve with electrical tape to seal the slit. OOOOOKAY.... I found the unconnected leads in the harness that goes to the ice maker water valve. They have male bullet style plugs and clips (a little corroded) but I cannot find anywhere to connect them... Is left side of the cabinet as viewed from the front or back? The main harness is on the left rear area. And if I make the slit long enough (which is very difficult, then the wires could make it back there. If I only could find where the mullion heater's connectors come out. Of course the wiring diagram only shows the mullion wiring as optional and not connected to anything. I really do not want to lay this 500lb (at least) beast on it's side. It already fell on me and my daughter, but a countertop and pallets save us. This refer has been nothing but a pain to deal with ever since I bought in 2001. I don't want to get rid of it, since it has custom wood panels that go with our kitchen, and I fell on hard times (due to illness) and cannot afford a new one. It fixed many things on it already. Such as the problem where the relays weren't soldered properly onto the main logic board, which fixed the non-defrosting problem and the freezer fan not working. But now the drain hole plugs with ice. So I read that many freezers have a 5W to 20W heater that runs all the time to keep the hole from freezing. Especially if water gets in the insulation under the floor of the freezer. Anyway, can anyone tell me how to find the connections to the mullion heater? Is it in the outside-rear channel up back of the refer? it's pop-riveted on. Thanks! Scott
