my d510 works perfect when the battery is charged charger is ok and will not recharge my battery

I have a simular problem. For a while now it would be hit or miss if the battery would charge when I have it plugged in. Sometimes when it was plugged in it would not run by the power cord and it would be running on battery life. Sometimes if I would giggle the wire to the laptop it would start running by the power cord. Any suggestions. If it is the mother board and i get a new laptop how can I retreave all my info from the bad laptop?

Also can i avoid the problem by using a docking station since it plugs into the bottom of the computer

Since you already tried it w/o a batter, really only a couple choices left. Your AC adaptor could be bad, try another--if you don't have one, go to a Radio Shack or similar and try a universal--see if someone at the store will set it up for you--try it right there, buy if it works. Otherwise, your power plugin on the notebook may be separated, check to see if it feels loose. If so, contact repair center, something they see on a regular basis. If not, m/b may be shot, cheaper to buy a new notebook.

Latitude 510 battery light flashing amber and white

Hello, the problem you are having is caused by a loose connection on your motherboard between the charging port and the motherboard. You can either open your computer and try to solder it, or you will need to replace the motherboard.

Another possible cause is that your laptop charger is dead. If you can't confirm, just get a new ac adapter, it is much cheaper than replacing the motherboard:

I was using my dell latitude d510 just fine the other day the only thing that was wrong is the battery wont charge so it always had to be plugged in. well from using the charger so much it finally stop...

The problem could be with the port the cord connects too. It could also be with the battery. If you take the battery out, and you still can't run on AC power, you need to replace the port. Take it to a computer/hardware shop and have it done.

Dell 9400 wont show AC power icon

If the computer is connected to an electrical outlet, the about10.jpg light operates as follows:
  • Solid green: The battery is charging.

  • Flashing green: The battery is almost fully charged.

If the computer is running on a battery, the about41.jpg light operates as follows:
  • Off: The battery is adequately charged (or the computer is turned off).

  • Flashing orange: The battery charge is low.

  • Solid orange: The battery charge is critically low.
Looks like the AC adaptor is faulty.

Laptop battery not charging wanna know how to run without battery

The problem you described here shows that, the case is not likely to be a battery problem, but the laptop AC-Adapter (Charger) problem, because, the red light you are seeing shows that your battery has rundown, and even when you plug-in the adapter to AC, it still blinks red, showing that the AC-Power is not charging it. I would suggest that you get another Laptop AC-Adapter (The Charger), or try it with a friend's own first, then you'll see that the problem might not be with your battery but your AC-Adapter
