Screen has not been broken but the picture has a small star like pattern on top left corner and is distorting the picture

Sounds like an impact of some sort happened--it does not take much.

If so and set is LCD or Plasma set--you have a damaged Display Panel which is fatal from a cost point of view.

I have a 52" Sony WEGA plasma TV. The picture went out, audio is fine. No TV picture, no dvd, no anything. What is wrong and how much do I need to budget to fix it? I love my Sony plasma!

that is because plasma tvs have a limit on there screen life and if all is done all day for months and months was watching tv ,playing games then you will need a new tv plasmas **** you can get same quality out of a lcd flat panel and three time the screen life or you could spend anthor grand and have the solution replace and maybe the that part of the control board went out and you will spending about half of what you paid for it to fix thats why i have two lcds have not had one problem with them one 32 for my computer and a 42 for me to watch tv ov on play games with and both the same brand and i paid 1200 for both brand new

Is it time to forklift this monster out?

I'm not completely an expert in projection televisions, but from what i do know about those, it might just be a question of the lenses on the projectors that need to be realigned, or the back mirror plate that has started to phase, warp or just unglue in some cases. So if it is just that then it will cost you a bit less to have it repaired then to buy a new one, but of course if you decide to invest a little more and buyt a new one, i would strongly suggest buying either an LCD TV or a Plasma TV model, as they will cost around the same as a new projection model, if you can find any cause i've heard they are disappearing from the market. Of course though, an LCD model will give a little less warmth and glow to the picture, but will usually cost heaps less for the same screen size, and still deliver something a bit better than the old school HD cathode ray flat screens that came out just before plasma and LCD went in vogue. So it's all a question of how much money you are willing to invest and wether you old TV has sentimental value to you or not, as some people cherish their posessions more than others.

42" Plasma TV was dropped, and damaged the screen. You can hear the television playing; but NO pictures will show.

You have damaged the plasma screen and it will need to be replaced. Bad news is that a new plasma panel is not covered by the manufacture warranty as they consider the damage as abuse and a new panel usually cost more than a new tv.

Samsung Plasma ps-42s5h has two black lines running vertical with green strip in the middle

Ok we have to resolve the extent of the problem before diagnosing it. Does the black line/green bar show on all inputs and the tuner? Is it visible in the OSD (on screen display)? if yes to all of these questions, it could be a panel drive problem or a bad plasma panel. A picture would help diagnosis

I have a philips 50pf7321d plasma tv and the screen suddenly split, half picture on each side of screen, and black bar inthe middle.

Black bar caused by a short IC on the ribbon of the plasma panel. Unfortunately it requires a new plasma panel. Cost of a new unit.

DLP TV: Left half normal, vertical 6" band center is gray, right half almost black. What's wrong?

No. The optical engine is OK. You need an adjustment in the light tunel. Call a tech to do it.
