I have phase linear uv8, need to know how to get subs 2 work! Amp goes into protect mode when rca's r plugged in, there r 3 sets of preamp out puts 1 front left and front right, 2nd is rear left rear...

try testing the amp without speakers plugged in. Run the sub preamp out to the amp that you will drive the subs with, but don't wire up the subs yet. Test for protect mode kicking in.
Yes - unplug the rca ins from the amp. retest.
No - Problem lies within the sub wiring. What is the load on the amp (measure with an ohm meter)? If it is below 4ohms, chances are the amp can't dip that low. Give it more resistance by wiring it differently (series vs. parallel)

No sound but green light is on

First of all Id like to state that Reality car amps arent the best quality amps on the market and they normally will burn out on you. From what you are telling me it looks like your sub outs are defective, the output signal from the car amplifier is dead usually due to weak or defective terminals or poor soldering by the manufacturer, very common with lower quality amps. My suggestion is to replace the amp with at least a mid grade amp like a sony xplod or pioneer amp , if money is an issue then you can have the outputs checked out , check the wiring and also make sure that your ground is solid and making good contact to the cars chassis otherwise you wont get sound. Check the Amp turn on cable which is the small blue wire and check that your radio has the amp turn on or subwoofer signal turned on. Let me know your status and Ill do my best to help you out.

Good luck,

It goes into protective mode even when there is no speakers or rca's hooked up to it.

It sounds like the output transistors maybe shorted or the power supply mosfets are shorted. Need to know what happend when amp quit working. Like was the volume up loud, or was you listening to it at a normal volume. Stuff like that. Alot of of the time in these Kenwood amps I have found that some zener diodes cause this problem by shorting out. Let me know what happend first before I start diagnosing anymore. Make sure all fuses are good and wiring to the amp. If interested I repair car amps for a living, cheaper than anyone or a another shop. I have over 15 years experience and repair amps everyday. Most of my out of stse customers are from Just send me a private message if interested, otherwise i'm here to help you the best I can and answer all your questions to the best of my knowledge.

Disconnect your speakers and test the amp. If the protection light goes out , check your speaker wires with a meter for resistance and check the speakers for a shorted coil. Hope this helps. If you need further help, post a comment and I can help you further.

Need Specific Specs on JBL 350.1 Mono Amp

Keep in mind the input current to the amp is not continuous. Yes, the fuses on the 3501 are rated at 2x30A, but that means that at any one time, if the peak current goes above 60A, (theoretically) a fuse should blow. But in reality, the amp will draw much less current than that under normal operation. Even by adding the 300/4 to the mix, in my opinion, you will be ok.

Car audio amp or speakers bad?

If you know how to use a multimeter, you can test the amp this way:

-unhook the subs
-hook up a cheapie speaker you know for sure works to one of the channels
-unhook the audio inputs
-turn the amp on
-set your meter to VDC
-put the positive probe on the inside of the input connector, being sure you make contact with th inner contact
-take the negative probe and tap it on the outside of the connector

What you are doing is sending a low voltage (replicating an audio signal) into the amp audio circuit and allowing the amp to amplify it. If the amp makes the speaker pop each time you strike the probe, the amp is working.

There is an inherent problem with band passes. The naturally filter out high frequencies like a crossover, including distortion, so it makes it hard to hear when the subs begin to protest.

Hi, Jensen is under different ownership from when your amp was made, so it's unlikely that you'll find a replacement plug for the high-level input. A high-low converter is also called a line-out converter. It's a device that connects to the speaker wires and changes the signal to a low-level RCA connection. This allows you to use the amp's RCA plugs with your speaker wiring (through RCA signal cables). A line-out converter should be available any place that sells car audio accessories.
