Freeware instead of expensive 'Suites.'

Freeware is a Great Way to Go!

Freeware;
  • is software intentionally available on the Internet without charge, and for all users to download.
  • ranges from programs which are excellent virus protection to programs that rival the best purchased word processing or spreadsheet "Suites." You can save money and help make information available to everyone, without limiting it to those who can pay.
Some of the best freeware programs I have found and given to many of my peers are;

Avast Virus Protection,
http://www.avast.com
Open Office Suite
http://openoffice.org
Picasa photo editor.
https://picasaweb.google.com
Mozilla Firefox
http:mozilla.org

  • offers a superb, fully customizable Web browser that is fast, functional, and offering well engineered add-ons and plug-ins.
  • Mozilla Thunderbird is the best mail client I have ever used and I have never paid a penny for its use.

***By actively promoting freeware, users are supporting it with this most valuable commodity ; appreciation.

How to keep your computer virus free

Many people that I have helped with computer viruses had recently purchased new computers which have virus protection included in the software bundle. The problem with these virus protection programs is that the updates are only good for the first year. After that, you must pay a fee to continue to get virus updates.

Many consumers don't realize this and after the year is up, do not renew the membership with the anti-virus company, leaving their computer unprotected from incoming viruses.

So, if you purchased a computer over a year ago, be aware of this problem. You will need to pay the yearly fee to maintain your anti-virus updates or get another anti-virus software available on the market.

There are some anti virus programs that are free or low cost. I have found AVG to provide a good quality free anti-virus program for home users. You can access the download at http://free.avg.com/us-en/download-avg-anti-virus-free.

Also, remember to be aware of emails from senders that you are not familiar with. Also be very careful about opening attachments on any emails. Be sure you know who sent them to you. Even then, if your not sure, verify with the sender that they actually sent this attachment to you before opening it. Email attachments are one of the most common ways of spreading viruses.

So, be careful and happy surfing!

Was sent a mesage had a virus in now computer wont work keeps saying no conection

Where you using any virus protection software? If not, you probably caught rogue virus software. This stuff first infects the PC and then demands payment to release and protect it. It's a scam virus. If you were using a virus protection program contact the software vendor for further help.

A Virus normally corrupts your computer. IF You have to do a Reformat. Be sure and do a Back-up First., because you will loose everything.

If you know how to do a back-up, save all your documents, pictures and music. If not take it to a reputable computer shop to take of this. There will be a slight charge, but they will save all your important data.

Under your spy ware protection it says that my subscription has expired. It was renewed on June 23,2008 and is supposed to be good untill August of 2009.It was billed to my master card onMay 26,2008....

Hi Chuck,

You pay for spyware protection whereas it is available for free of charge to download and install for whole life time....
I would advise you to uninstall your existing spyware protection and then install Avira anti virus protection..AVIRA IS A FREE ANTI-VIRUS *** SPYWARE SOFTWARE AND IT IS FREE FOR WHOLE LIFE...
download it from the following link..

Good luck ;-)

We are a Church and do not have a credit card to enable me to renew Anti Virus Protection online. Is it possible to be billed and pay by cheque?

Do not renew your subscription. I am guessing it is Norton(Symantec) or McAfee, unfortunately both of these once reputable anitivirus applications have become loaded with a lot of intrusive software that eats up system resources and slows your computer down.
Use a free antivirus application like AVG, Avast or NOD32. These free applications are just as good if not better to be honest, than either Norton or McAfee.
Here is a link to download the free version of AVG 8.0.

I am the securities moderator on another forum and AVG is by far the most popular antivirus package.
