SOURCE: older black & decker bench grinder

Usually a new wire wheel comes with different size bushing just for the problem you are describing. Either that or take it back and get one specifically for your tool.

SOURCE: Black & Decker 4 1/2 grinder gets very hot

You will see vents near the head of the grinder. Make sure your hands are not blocking when in use. Also another thing I like to do with my grinders is removed the head cover (gear box) and replace the lube with a good grade of grease. I suspect if you open yours it will look like an orange wax substance. Clean and re-lube. They do run on the warm side.

I need to know what the proper "new" spec for the distance the valve stem should protrude from the head. This is the distance from the head, under the valve spring seat to the end of the valve stem.

I think you are overthinking this Gary.

You get the correct valve for the bike.
You use lapping paste and a lapping tool the seat the valve.
You add the spring, collet and clip.
You adjust the tappet clearance (rocker to top of valve stem).

FWIW, I have never heard of anyone grinding the stem of a new valve. The top of the valve is hardened and you don't want to remove that with the heat of grinding.

I have a 7" angle

There are 3 versions of the 7" grinder model 4074. Sears Parts Direct has the manual for sale http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/part-number/BLACK-DECKER-Parts/Grinder-Parts/741333-00/0009/900/Model-4074/1228/0721050?keySuffixId=NA&productTypeId=x&searchModelNumber=4074&subCompDesc=Unit%20parts&brandDesc=BLACK&DECKER&modelDesc=7 .

Black and Decker has pdf versions of the manuals for many of their products are here: http://www.blackanddecker.com/manuals.aspx . However, check the model number on the grinder. 4074 doesn't come up as a valid model. The usual model numbers start with alphabetic characters to indicate the type of tool. The site lists where to look for model numbers.

I hope this helps.

The tip on one side of the grinder blade has broken off...the machine runs well and has not had a lot of use. Can the blade be replaced; if so, how, and how much? SmartGrind CBG5.

I have two different coffee grinders and if it is just the tip of one side of the blades you can continue using it, if there is a large portion that is broken I'm not sure of that model. Hint: check to see if the part is still in the grinder set the grinder for the most coarse grind, don't turn it on, shake it upside down to see if the broken potion is still in the grinder. If you find nothing use the grinder unless the performance is less than you like.

Grinder is blocked and have tried screwing the grinder stem but no change is there anything else i can try

Hi hope I'm not too late. But I vaccumed the bean grinder. Unscrew the grinder stem fully open/large grind, place vaccum hose over grinder, turn on vaccum it sucks out any loose 'hard' beans/rocks/stems. Srew down to desired grind and refill - worked for me.

I just want to know how to clean it after use - it is a coffee grinder, SmartGrind

How to Clean SmartGrind Blade Coffee Grinder - White

1. Always unplug the unit before cleaning. Wash the lid in warm, soapy water - not in a dishwasher.

Wipe the grinding bowl, base, and other parts with a slightly damp cloth or sponge. Take special care

around the blades; they are sharp! Dry parts thoroughly. Do not immerse grinding bowl, base or plug

in liquid or under running water.

2. Never use harsh detergents or abrasive cleansers or scouring pads to clean any

part.

3. To remove residue or aromas left behind by nuts, grind one tablespoon of baking

soda in the bowl then wipe thoroughly.
4. Use the built-in cord wrap on the underside of the unit to store the cord

Model 7900 5

is it possible that you have misplaced the inner clamp washer? I looked at a print on this tool and that is the only thing that I can see unless it has major bearing problems. Did this just start after a wheel change and what is the possibility that the wheels are too big and hitting the housing or there is a build up of grinding dust in the bell where the wheel turns. Most of the parts for this tool are probably discontinued. You can go to Dewaltservicenet.com and under manuals type in your model number for a copy of the breakdown that I looked at.

Bench Grinders Usage

Grinding is the fastest way to deburr a sharp corner or dress the end of threaded rod or bar stock that's been cut to length. Fit a grinder with a wire wheel, and you have a handy tool for removing rust. Then switch to a buffing wheel and you're ready to polish metal to a mirrorlike sheen. But for most of us, grinders are essential for shaping and sharpening hardened tool steel and high-speed steel.

Precision work question

Bench grinders aren't designed for precision work. In fact, they're really freehand tools that rely on a good eye and careful touch. And while you can take some tools, like drill bits or turning tools, right from the grinding wheel to the work, it's common for grinding to be a relatively coarse, preliminary shaping procedure, followed by careful honing on a whetstone.
