Question about GE XL1800 1100 Watts Microwave Oven
I put a potato in the microwave and did not realize that the end of the potato had been cut...bottom line I overcooked the potato, causing smoke and a small fire which I put out promptly. Now nothing works - the lights won't come on. Ichecked the fuse box and all is OK there. Should I just buy a new microwave?
After washing you need to poke holes in potatoe skins or the steam can cause them to explode. Cook potatoes no longer than 6 to 8 minutes depending on your units power.
Microwave ovens can be very dangerous if damaged, so you will be safer to replace the unit. Better safe than sorry. Service on microwave ovens is not cost effective, and the newer ovens are very reasonable.
