Red Light My picture is very green. I looked in the back of the TV and it seems the red light is not on. I can see green and blue, but no red. When I try to do "Magic Focus" the green and blue colors on the screen flash as usual. When it gets to red it just stops.

Back - light problem. Check and replace damaged component/s at its back-light inverter board, or replace this board as card basis. If you wish to get some details; check the site linked here. Surf the site with patience. Pull up older posts. It will be best to replace the inverter board as card basis. To some model sets; especially LED back-lighted types; the back-light inverter circuit will be part of the main power supply board . In such cases, the power supply board might need replacement. To some models sets, the back-light inverter and SMPS section circuit will be integrated at its main board itself. If so; the main board should be replaced. To some models of sets, all these section circuit will be integrated at its main board. If this is the case, you have to replace the main board.

If the power supply outputs are good! Then I would say the back light inverter is bad! If the screen stays black and does not come on.

the tubes are weak you may want to have a shop look at it but i know the tubes are weak

The picture tube of the tv has 3 color in CRT Red, Green, Blue. The red cathodeof tv set has no function, its either the resistor become higt resistance, that why u need a repairman to replace it.

you are experiencing one or more of three things
1.the crt itself is damaged
2. the vertical ic on blue crt board is bad
3. the focus block is bad
if you hire a sony authorized technician they should be well aware of this problem.

Could you show a picture of the distended cover you mentioned?

 

Were the light blue lines you were referring to, diagonal, or truly horizontal?

Sounds like you have two differant problems. A red drive or red picture tube is bad and the conbvergence IC's are bad. To test the red drive disconnect the green picture tube socket BUT MAKE SURE THE SET IS UNPLUGGED!!Then remove the red socket and move over to the green tube. Then turn on the set. If you get the same out of the green then you have a drive problem that needs to be trouble shot for a bad componet. If you do get a picture with the red connected to the green then the red tube is shot. If you know how to read a schematic, get one and then you should have no problem troubleshooting the red drive and the convergence problem. If you dont then there is no easy or quick fix as this is a solid state set and there are no user replaceable parts inside this.,. Your going to need, for safetys sake, call in a trained tech to assist you with this repair
