Shutting off then on continuously, w/ green light on

After about 45 mins of watching, tv goes black, no audio. Wait and it will come and repeat cycle. Shutting off TV and turning it back on will also temporarily solve problem. Any suggestions

My set will turn on and play full picture and audio for 2 mins and then it with turn black and silent for 30 seconds. The green light will stay on in the front while this happens. Then the video and audio fade back on and then the cycle repeats. In the back of the tv set there is a little greeb light that blinks all the while.

I began having this problem a couple days ago. We've had the set almost three years & haven't experienced any malfunction/s.

Turn on the TV from a 'cool' condition. I lose picture (black screen) & sound (all audio) after 2-5 minutes of operation. The 'Power' light signal remains Green & Steady. About 20-30 seconds I get two short (2-3 seconds) medium frequency low volume 'buzz' sounds from the area of the projection lamp. Immediately following the 'buzz' noise, the set returns to normal operation -- first picture, then sound. A minute to ninety seconds, the malfunction cycle repeats -- & continues to repeat. I shut off the TV fearing this constant cycling of the projection lamp may cause it to explode (hot-cool-hot-cool---).

Both my pleas to Sony for tech assistance have yeilded the same response; "Seek Professional Authorized Service."

This 'thing' is too large (& delicate) to shove in the back of a pickup truck & begin looking for someone (honest & reasonable) to repair it. And, it's less expensive to get a Doctor to make a house call than request a repair person come to my home. Besides, the favorite & preferred method seems to begin changing parts & adding the cumulative costs until by luck, the correct part is finally changed.

Please excuse the rant, but this two-thousand dollar (or so) toy shouldn't '**** out' in under three years of use! Any advice or suggestion/s will be tremendously appreciated.

Hi. I have yet to see anyone reporting wether replacing the lamp fixes the on/off every 1 minute or so issue?

Also, can anyone tell me WHY and HOW a bad/going out bulb would ALSO cause the sound to go off when it is doing this on'off deal?

My set is doing the same thing and yet, as others have said it's giving NO 'flashing codes' on the front and the green power light stays on the entire time it's going on and off... Thanks, Paul

Let's try and narrow this down a bit by answering some questions:
    1) When the picture goes, does the green light start flashing?
    2) How long has it been since you replaced the lamp, or have you ever replaced the lamp?

One commenter said they heard a buzz. This is the lamp ballast trying to ionize the gas in the lamp. Kind of like a spark plug arc. Very good observation, as it's hard to detect! It will do this buzz sound until either the lamp ionizes or a few unsuccessful attempts, then it will set a fault code. Normally the ballast monitors the lamp current constantly and if it gets out of spec it will do sort of a mini reset, trying to recycle to lamp voltage.

You may not have noticed the picture getting darker since it happens so subtly over time.

This type of cycling is related to a weak lamp. Change it, give all ventillation openings a good vacuuming and you should be good again.

In sets that I've seen with a bad lamp, the pic will go away and the green light will flash. However, given the age of your unit and the fact that you haven't replaced the lamp yet, that would be my suggestion. Replace the lamp with an original Sony lamp (not an aftermarket replacement, they are known to have issues). Please let me know if this takes care of your problem and be sure to rate my response. Thanks!

Turn tv on watch it for 20 mins. screen shuts off but green power light is still on. turn it off manualy wait a few mins. turn back on watch for anouther 20 mins or so then screen shuts off again

The reasion your set is shutting off is because the power supply is dieding, and you need to replace the electrolytic caps on the power supply, or purchase a new one, go to sand check to see if they have your power supply.

Unit powers up for 5- 10 min good picture....then it goes black power light goes from green to red and flashes once and solid and repeats pattern .........if i go up to unit and push power off and back on...

There is circuit problem inside. For safety reasons power might get shut down! Unless the fault is rectified, this problem will continue. Do not attempt switching ON again & again. Get authorised service center assistance.
