Look in the power supply section first for bad caps, post back what you find inside, pictures will help a lot to guide you through, see example of failed monitors due to bad caps: http://s807.photobucket.com/home/budm/allalbums

It can be as simple as bad caps, or worst case will be bad lamp assembly. Basic LCD monitor and TV troubleshooting guide: Learn about bad caps: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Capacitor_plague Capacitors kit: http://lcdalternatives.auctivacommerce.com/ he can make you a set of caps for you. Or www.digikey.com just make sure to use caps with low ESR, 105c, high ripple current, long life rating such as PANASONIC FM or FC series.

You need to check your power options settings and modify it , so that your monitor does not turn off automatically.
If you are using windows xp , go in control panel and then there would be an icon for power options , double click the power options and then you would find settings which read turn off monitor , turn off hard disk etc... select the turn off monitor to never mode or as per your convenience and you would have your problem solved.
Hope this helps.

If the monitor turns on and goes directly to sleep, or it powers on briefly and shows an image then goes black then the monitor is defective. The first is often an I/O panel issue inside of the monitor. The second is typically a lamp failure within the monitor.
A simple test would be to plug a different monitor into your computer or this monitor into another computer. If the monitor doesn't work on another computer or a different monitor works on the same computer then the monitor is the issue.
If the different monitor does not work on the same computer or this monitor does work on a different computer then something on the computer is to be suspected such as a driver issue or a faulty video card.
If you find the monitor is defective then you should dispose of it (assuming it is not under warranty) at a nearby recycling center and purchase a new monitor. I would suggest something by Acer, Samsung, Dell, HP, NEC, or Viewsonic. These brands cost a bit more, but have much better track records.
