Old photos scan great into folder on Mac but appear black when transfered to IPhoto on m

I am scanning old photos into my MacBook 2.0GHz 160GB as JPEGs at 300 dpi, 8 bit using Image Capture. The photos appear fine as long as they are in the folder I scanned them into. I can burn them to a CD just fine. But I need them in IPhoto and when transferred to IPhoto all the thumbnails appear black as well as the photos. When I click on the photos, however, the images do appear. I have scanned the B/W photos in as B/W as well as in color format, Generic RGB, sRGB, Adobe RGB, Color LCD which are my options. It does not appear to make a difference. The only successful photos to transfer were a modern day 4x6 color photo and the B/W photos I changed to JPEG-2000. Any ideas about what is going wrong? It is becoming very frustrating and my project is on hold until I can solve this problem. Thanks so much for any help. Carrie

This is a driver problem on your scanner if you can just do an update for the scanner driver or if not you can also uninstall and reinstall the software for your scanner and that should fix this problem...

Sounds like something wrong with the software, try opening the pictures in the windows picture viewer, and if they are fine, reinstall the graphic software.

Try scanning the color document with default scanning options and see how it comes out.

this is about scanner to mac compatibility..which is why the images are blacked out on the screen..the
files are evidently there, just need to sort out the integration aspects ..

Does my Maxtor back up my iphotos?

Run a time machine backup. Then the easiest way would be to find a photo that you are willing to delete in iPhoto.

Jot down the name of the photo file, delete it. Then empty the trash.

Then go into time machine, try to search for that file, when you locate it, restore it. If you can then there is probably a good chance that you time machine backup is good.

To be on the safe side why not create a manual backup.

You'll find the iPhoto Library at:

/Users/username/Pictures

"username" will be your name that appears when you login to the computer.

  1. To get there, double-click the icon for your hard drive to open it, then double-click the Users folder. Double-click your Home folder, which is identified by a house icon and your username, and then double-click the Pictures folder to open it.
        1. Inside the Pictures folder you'll see a file called iPhoto Library. Copy the iPhoto Library file to a location other than your hard drive, such as your Maxtor external hard drive.

I would Assume that all your Pictrues are in 1 folder? If they are just copy and paste folder into your 32 Gig Stick And then use Gig stick and Copy Folder out to your Mac air..

Just check to make sure folder size is Under 31 gig's in size..

Hope this helps. BCB...

Pictures are normally stored in:
~\Pictures
Option 1:
Nikon Transfer stores the pictures in a user selected folder. To fine it, look: http://support.nikonusa.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/266/kw/Nikon%20Transfer
Option 2:
1. Remove Nikon Transfer 2. Have iPhoto import the images into the iPhoto library (~\Pictures)

How to sync an IBook G4 wth a Mac 1 Ghz Power PC G4

Transferring you iPhoto Library requires the same version of iPhoto on each. Then you can just move the "package" from one to the other. It appears as a package in the latest versions but inside is a directory hierarchy. Older versions used the file system for this. The package keeps you from messing with the files and internal links. Depending on your collection you may need a real disk and not just a flash drive.
To transfer the photos themselves only requires exporting from one machine and importing on the other. However, you then lose any comments, folders, and anything but the photos. You may want to be sure to send the copy with red-eye correction... or you will have to do it again. Do it a folder at a time. -Ken

Lexmark 2600 scanning to MAC-no can do

Edward, I have this same problem. Were you able to solve it? Anyone, can you help? I have installed the drivers. When I connect the printer to my Mac, it launches ImageCapture and previews the scan fine. But I am unable to get the "scan" button to become active, adn there is no place to save the scan. If I click "save pdf to iphoto" it saves a pdf of the entire screen, rather than just the photo. Appears not to be Mac compatible for scanning purposes. Thank you for your help.

Trying to scan a photo from my HP Photosmart 2575 to my Macbook

Hi,
You can't scan directly into iPhoto however the software that came with your HP scanner should have something that can. If you don't have the software you will need to download it from the much easier to navigate HP.com site. Once you have scanned them using HPScan you can transfer them into iPhoto by drag and drop from app to app or Finder to iPhoto.

All the best

Unable to open backed-up files. Error code 10657

I got error code 10657 when I tried to open a file in Finder on the external drive that I had used for a Time Machine backup before I reformatted the hard drive of my MacBook. When I started Time Machine on the MacBook (with Leopard reinstalled) and went to the backup date that held the desired file, I was told that I needed to recreate the containing folder (or choose another location for the restore). I chose recreate the folder, and the restored file was available in the new folder without any further problem.
