Garmin Nuvi 760

I have been using my Garmin Nuvi 760 with the auto adapter for about 8 months in the car. It has been working fine. If I take the GPS off a charger, it says Battery Low. It will beep every 10 seconds that the battery is low. I had tried charging it with the USB cable to the computer overnight. When it is plugged in, I see GARMIN and the GPS/computer icon on the bottom of the unit. It does beep when I connect it to the pc indicating that it is plugged in. After I disconnect it overnight and turn it on, the same thing happens immediately - Battery Low. Any ideas?

I have the exact same problem. I charge the GPS all night and then the charge lasts about 30 minutes and then begins to blink every 10 seconds. Any solutions.

I have the same problem, after a few months the battery low indicator comes on immediately. I should of sent it back but didn't. Big Mistake. I paid over $600 for this unit when it came out. Another big mistake. Not only did I overpay, but I have a defective product that I overpaid for!

How do I charge a Garmin Nuvi 1490 with a wall charger?

  • mrobins49 May 17, 2014

The biggest issue on the 700 series is the cradle. Check the metal part where the charger plugs in. If it is loose this is where the problem is and you will need to repait in internally or order new cradle. They can be found at GPSNSTFF.com

Sounds like you both have a battery problem. I experienced a similar problem when trying to charge via the USB-cable connected to my computer.
Ended up buying an original charger (expensive) and the charging went smooth.
The car charger should in any case work fine, so probably your battery is not very healthy.

Try holding your finger on the battery symbol for about 10 sec. The unit will then switch to a technical page. There you can observe the battery and charging voltage. When I plug in my computer USB-cable, I read around 4,4V and that is not sufficient for charging my battery.
When connected to the original charger, this voltage rises to about 5V which gives a nice charge. When unplugging charger, the unit displays the battery capacity. If the charging voltage is OK, but battery capacity drops quickly after you unplug charger cable, the battery is probably bad. (Of course you have to charge is for some time) I think around 4V battery voltage give 100% capacity. 3,9V gives about 90% capacity.
This will not solve your problem, but can give you an idea about what is wrong.
Good luck.

let me put add to the video above....the power supply to battery connector is keyed to fit one way. so what i said about the red wire facing the top of the unit may be incorrect. I was changing the battery on the fly without practicing....Thanks.

Before taking your GPS apart, plug the charger into the unit. Now move the charger back and forth gently. If your unit indicates power in charging intermittently, you have a bad cradle. You can find on at GPSNSTUFF.com

SOURCE: where do i plug in my 120v charger on my garmin nuvi 760 gps

Hi I have this model too. You must have the 120v charger with the Mini-B  port on it. It plugs into that port on the bottom(PS3 controllers cameras, and other Computer devices often have a mini-B USB

Nuvi 760 will not take charge

I don't know which of the three ways you're trying to charge - car cradle, via USB cable to a computer or via accessory AC adapter. An 18 month old 760 should still have a good battery.

If you are using your car cradle to charge consistently, use one of the other methods and allow the 760 to charge for 8 hours. Use of the car cradle can cause the 760 to stop taking a charge after a while, and switching to one of the other methods should "refresh" the internal battery. Since the AC adapter wasn't included in the box, the USB cable method is likely your only other choice. While connected to your computer, you should download & update the 760's firmware. It's fast and free - and could solve other potential issues. Get the WebUpdater software direct from Garmin.

It is also possible that the fuse in the cigar lighter plug has opened. Disassemble the the plug to check for and replace a blown fuse.

If unable to get the 760 to accept a charge, you might need to replace the battery. There are several sources for batteries - but a free call to Garmin Support should be your first move.

Where do i plug in the 120 charger on my garmin nuvi 760

I forgot to mention I have the Auto charger, a picture is found here.

If you bought a generic AC charger that claims to work for the 760 which doesn't have the mini-b end, you bought the wrong one.!
That (mini USB) USB port is the only place to charge the battery on this model

Can not turn on my GPS Garmin nuvi 760

Can you try the direct to outlet charger? If you dont have one can you try a different charger? If that does not work then that means that the unit might be defective. Contact Garmin at 1-800-800-1020

Nuvi 760 will not turn on !!

I just had the same issue, after using the unit for 11 months.
WOULD NOT power on... and i freaked.
This is what solved it, no matter how strange it sounds...
I held the 'power switch' to ON for 20 secs, then it came on again.

I hope this works for you as well!

Garmin 760 wont come on

Try holding the power slide to the left and holding it there for 8 seconds. If that doesn't work, try charging it via your PC & USB cable. If that doesn't work, try a mains charger if you have one (I had to do this with mine). Good luck!

Charging

1. please check if the charger socket in you car is working.
You could use other deivce like a MP3 player for charging in the same socket.
If other device is not charging then the problem could be with the socket.

Check the fuse associated with the car charger.output

2.Looks like Nuvi charger has a known lose contact issue. It would be advisable to let Garmin know the issue and they will send a new one.

New Nuvi 760 that won't work

Using the PC to charge a Nuvi is not the correct way to charge. Use either the AC wall charger or DC car charger. Many PC USB ports can not supply enough current to charge a Nuvi.
