Goto start > click on Run > type 'cmd' > now when you come to dos prompt type "ipconfig /release " and then hit the enter key..Now type "ipconfig /renew " this will renew your ip address..If you want to change it manually then goto internet connection > select internet properties > open Tcp ip properties. You will get a dialogue box where you can change your ip address if it is assigned manually...

What does computer command "ipconf/release" do?

This command will flush the IP address from an active connection. The correct syntax is ipconfig /release *con* which will release all connections. If you just want to see if you can get a new address then use ipconfig /renew

I have a message that say Ip address conflict, what can I do

Resolving IP Address Conflicts

Try the following remedies for IP conflicts:

1. For networks where IP addresses are fixed (statically assigned), ensure each local host is configured with a unique IP address.

2. If your computer has a dynamically assigned address, releasing and renewing its IP address can workaround IP address conflicts.

3. If your home router is believed to have a faulty DHCP server causing IP conflicts on the home network, upgrading the router firmware may resolve this problem.

Cannot renew ip address

You may have to perform a DNS Flush..Sometimes with wireless, the laptop cache in the IP address that is used when you are connected wirelessly. You can Flush this down the toilet by performing the following command at a DOS Prompt by going to run, and type in CMD, then input the following command in. Once this is done, try to renew your IP again!!

C:\>ipconfig /flushdns

E Machines not renewing IP Address

suspect your cable modem is looking for the MAC address of your compaq's NIC. if you run IPCONFIG /ALL on the Compaq (Start run, cmd <enter> then IPCONFIG /ALL <enter> , you can get the 12 digit MAC address.

In the router setup, there should be an option to CLONE MAC address, put in the MAC address of the COMPAQ. Then release and renew the IP address in the Router from the cable modem. The router should then get a valid IP address from the cableand you should be able to connect both systems to the router and surf.
