Question about Toshiba 32HFX71 32" TV

1 Answer

Toshiba 32hfx71 / 36hfx71 remote control only sensing at one inch distance

My remote only works at a distance of one inch from the sensor window. All functions work , but only at that distance. The same happens with a universal remote. I have read suggestions to resolder the sensing IR  LED to rule out cold solder joints. a schematic is available here: http://viejo.clubdediagramas.com/archivo/televisores-tv-a5/toshiba-m88/toshiba-36-32hfx71-pdf-f1239.html

Does anyone have another idea? Thanks

thanks for the quick reply freetek:

the set was never repaired in the past, and the back only came off during my first look at the circuit boards that may be causing this issue.

The TV just up and decided one day to be problematic.

I just tried the remote at all different angles, as suggested, and it didn't notice any difference.

Yeah, odd that it went " a little bad" and not all bad.

but the universal remote only works at one inch distance also.

I'm now thinking I will have to re-address dust inside the case (on the LED) as the cause, maybe.

    Thanks for quick reply freetek:

the TV doesn't notice any difference via remote angles, left right up down.

It has never been repaired, and the back-case only came off when this problem began, to allow me to look at the circuit boards.

My recollection was that there aren't many small sub-boards, if any, so any replacement would be to the main board, which wouldn't be cheap, I'm sure.

I'm not sure if I dusted the TV's IR-LED then, which may be something that could help.

Since the problem is common on two remotes, the source of your misery has to be inside your set, not with the remote. The receiver in the set may not be positioned as it should be since it is rare to have either end go 'a little bad.' They generally will fail totally instead. Any shop that services TVs will have a simple pen-like detector that will tell you if the remote is putting out enough signal to work as it should.
If your set has ever been repaired, the main board may not be sitting in the slots that act as supports.
You might try to hold the remote in several different positions; holding it below the IR window and pointing it upward, the same for each side and then above the window. If it seems to respond better from one or the other angle, then the receiver is not sitting square behind the window.

How can I get my Ferguson F1915 LVD 19" TV remote to work from a distance more than one inch?

Three main reasons.
1> Weak battery
2>weak infrared emission due to less intensity of infrared rays comes out from the infrared LED, at the front end of the remote control.
3> Sensitivity of the infrared sensor inside the TV is less. [Defective]
Contact any service technician to make which one is defective.
Check the remote control for its infrared emission. Check it with fresh batteries. Check it by pressing all the keys. You can detect the presence of infra-red emission from the remote control, using a cell-phone camera. If you wish to get more details about how to check a remote control, please visit this site. One among the posts has details about it. Surf the site with patience. In some cases, the remote control might need to clean.

How do i fix my remote

Check it with fresh batteries. If batteries are weak, this might happen. If batteries are good, and still it does not give you distance range, the infrared emitting LED inside it is faulty. To replace it, you have to open the remote control. Check this link. http://electronicshelponline.blogspot.com/ It has details about how to repair a remote control. Pull up older posts. The fault can also be due to a faulty remote sensor inside the TV too. The sensor can be located just behind the infrared sensor window at the front of the TV. Will look somewhat like this.

I have a 60 inch lg tv. The remote just stopped working Put in new batteries. Tv button lights up on remote but will not turn tv on.

Let me know model number of your 60 inch LG tv to find out possible cause of no remote operation.
I do not think that IR receiver is bad in your tv. Regarding dusty IR receiver lens, you can confirm it by sending remote signal by very close distance to tv.
There are few other possibilities of no remote operation problem instead of bad IR receiver.

TV does not detect remote control.

Remote control receiving sensor circuit problem in the TV. Mostly due to degradation of the sensor over a period of time.

Go close to the TV and see whether you get a response. If it responds try determining the distance back wards. If the remote works up to certain distance, the problem is weak sensor (TV).

If totally not operative it is sensor circuit problem. It could be sensor or it's associated parts.

Panasonic 42 inch HD Plasma TV (2 years old) remote sensor

take your tv and remote to a technician to check on your emitting diode and a photo senser, both are working but not very sensitive. the components are not gone but about to go. if you remove a senser from tv it can not receive, so that senser is sensing some thing, also check an amplifier just after a senser plse do that.

Remote Control not working for MW24FM3 Toshiba

I have the same problem with my unit. I use the original remote and my Tivo remote. Both stopped working at the same time. Ocassionally they will work for awhile then stop. They always both work or both don't. Therefore it must be the TV; likely the sensor or something connected to it. Sorry I don't have a solution. Guess I need to take it to the shop.

I'm afraid that the most likely culprit here is the infrared receiver inside the amp. Is this a new amp? If so, return it for an exchange.
