Sounds like hard drive failure. If you have anything on the drive you cannot live without, leave it alone till you either install a new drive or can install it to another PC, then you can try to copy your data. The more you try to fix it the more likely it is you will lose data.
If you don't care about the data, try re-installing Windows using System Recovery. (Press F10 key repeatedly during startup)

Thats the problem, the computer was shut down improperly and lost all the pertinent info it needs to re boot. Next time the computer freezes up use Ctrl+Alt+Del to shut down. Insert your windows disk and restart your computer, thats your boot disk, you can either repair your windows or install a fresh windows. Good Luck.

Plz check if you can get the bios screen. If yes then while booting press F8 key so that you can enter safe mode.if you can log in through safe mode then do a system restore to earlier date.If you cant log in through safe mode then you have to reinstall or repair your operating system

Hp pavillion dv6910us will not boot. Power, quickplay bar, touchpad, and dvd lights turn on only then immediatly shuts down no beep codes or fan sounds are heard.

The motherboard is the problem, common in HP, sub out the ram one stick at a time and try power on each time, remove main battery as a last resort. If none of these help the main board must be replaced.

My hp dv 8000 Pavillion laptop will turn on and then it immediatly shuts down after 5 seconds or so

Power drain would be a better solution in this case. 1.first shut down the comp 2.unplug the charger 3. remove the battery and after press and hold the power button for 60 seconds without any charger and the battery. After the 60 seconds replug the battery and the charger and turn the computer .
and if this doesn't help
then try to take out the ram or memory chip from the computer and place it back.

try starting in safe mode. hold down f8 when you turn on your computer until you get a menu with the option to boot in safe mode. once you successfully log on in safe mode, restart your computer and the problem should be cleared. if not, we can explore further options.

Reset the laptop. Take out the battery and remove the power cable from the wall socket. Wait 30 seconds and put the battery back in, connect it back to the wall socket and start it up.

HP Pavilion Laptop dead?

Try unplugging laptop and take the battery out. Put battery back in and plug back in. If that doesn't work It would recommend taking it to a professional. The good news is that your data on your hard drive should be okay.

Computer won't boot with chime-ing

If it beeps in a pattern (example 2 long 3 short) then I would need to know the pattern. With that pattern I could try to determine when the faulty component is.

Windows xp missing file and won't start up

Here's what I would do, because after reading around on that error message, it seems like you can't repair the problem.

I would find myself one of these: http://www.casecooler.com/3drto2dr.html

Take out your laptop's HD, hook it up to that convertor, slave it to a desktop, pull all your data that you don't want to lose to the desktop, put the laptop's HD back into the laptop, reformat/reinstall windows back onto the laptop, pull the HD back out of the laptop, hook it back up to that convertor, slave it back to the desktop, put your data back onto the laptop's HD, then put it back in the laptop.

That will leave you with a clean install that works on the laptop and you won't lose any data.
