Had to get a new special USB cable to hook up my HP 4500 printer to a new laptop w/o a parallel port. XP has a driver and I set up but can't print. It's like the computer can't activate the printer. Don't know ehat to do?

Scanning is not possible thru the parallel port. You must use the USB1.1 port in order to use the scanning feature.
The parallel port is only used for printing.
If you hook up the machine with a USB cable you can print and scan using USB. This includes color scanning.

You can't have a double hook up to it,When the parallel port is used the usb port is disabled and when you use the usb port the parallel port is disable.This is done to prevent damage to the printer.You can network the laptop with the pc and print that way though
I have Canon LBP-800 laser printer with parallel prot and have computer with USB port. I connect my LBP-800 printer with Parallel and USB Converter but printer is not functioning. I am using Windows XP. Please solve the problem in details.
