Since you have not stated what sort of problem or whether you need or want a new one

One bad lead or faulty connection point can cause a computer to continue on a cycle or to shutdown or fail to detect your hard drive boot up

test all leads that attach to your hard drive including electrical extensions SATA

the leads from your ((motherboard to your hard drive)) make sure they have a secure dust free connections and are not faulty or just replace them they could be faulty

make sure all leads that are attached to your drives dvd\cd have secure connections and are not faulty or just replace them they could be faulty

even something as small as an electrical extension or a faulty fan lead can cause you problems computer needs all of the data and power to travel through every working device and to have an end for a computer to be able work properly

a motherboard and a hard drive any leads between them will fail before your motherboard or your hard drive check all electrical extensions make sure they are securely seated even the cd/dvd drives need to have current go through make sure these devices are working

might be getting hot

check the CPU make sure it has thermal paste and dust free secure seating

also check your computer ram modules and cmos battery make sure they are dust free and securely seated some motherboards cmos batteries are soldered in

hope this helps you

Here is the link to copy and paste to your browser address bar or click on it to go there directly. It is the PDF file of your service manual for that laptop. This is the manual that is used to troubleshoot and disassemble the laptop. It is free to use, copy and print.

I just hauled my very old Acer notebook (Travelmate 220) out of storage to give to a worthy cause, but I can't open it. It's password protected which is something I never usually bother with, but back then...

For that you have to reset bios settings.
Open back cover of laptop then find motherbord .
Pull CMOS cell from motherbord for 10 minutes from motherbord so all settings reset.
You can also reset password with jumper on motherbord.
Find jumper on motherbord named "clear cmos " or "reset bios " it has 3 pin.
Set jumper in 2-3 position then again put jumper in 1-2 position .
Then all settings goes to factory defaults.
Let me know if you need more assistance.
Thanks.

Cmos password reset for acer aspire 4736z

On most acers it is two pads or a small jumper hidding under the ram.
With the laptop OFF remove the ram and check for J3 its is usually a bit more distinctive than the normal green pcb
You need to short that jumper out for a second or so
re-install the ram and boot up
You should now be able to get into the bios
