Question about Canon NP 6050 Copier

Error code E004

I have an old Canon NP 2120 copier. The error shows 004, which indicate fuser problem. A while back, when a service man visited me to fix something else, he told me that the drum need to be changed. So I bought one from him to change it later when it would show problem.
Now, I think, I need to change the drum, but I forgot how to change it. He showed me how, but it was a long ago. Could you help me how to change the drum?

Thank you very much.

Below, I used NP6050 copier because I could not find my copier name, NP 2120.

Thank you very much for your help. Before I received your reply, I figured out how to change the drum, and tried to change it. As you said it did not work.

Is the fuser lamp or thermofuse something that I can change myself? Or, do I have to bring the copy machine to the shop?

I am not sure whether my previous reply went through, so I am posting it again.

Thank you for your "If you are handy I can walk you through it" offer. I would like to go through it with you. How can I do it? Should I call you? My phone is 847-680-2459.

    Thank you.

Thank you very much. I was expecting it would be a long distance call, and I would be happy to call you to get your help. But, as you suggested, I will try to follow your suggestion. So, I will be looking forward to receiving your detailed replacement note. I really appreciate it very much.

I thought you are in the place that I can purchase the parts, but I will try the places that you suggested.

When I receive your instruction, I will study them and order the parts, and try to replace them.

    Thank you again,

The error has nthing to do with the drum!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I can tell you how to change it,but it will still have the code.

You have either a blown fuser lamp or thermofuse, you should change that before the drum since you still won't be able to use it?

    Hi Kim,

I'm in Florida, it would be long distance, and probably take a few hours, I'll walk you through it over the net, I think I can give a pretty good and thorough explanation of how to do it.

do you need a parts place to order it??

    try these :

i'll send a detailed replacement note.

Also, you should definately think about replacing these parts it will make life easier and keep the machine running longer and trouble free. The 2020/2120 is a great copier when running and kept in shape.

    Consider changing :

    1- Oil roller

3-upper and/or lower fuser rollers ( they should be shiny with no scratches or defects)

Allthough I have not worked on one in a few years ( the last client I had w/a 2120 I replaced all the said parts and he hasn't had a problem in 2yrs!!! great for him but not so good for me, anyway he's happy)

This is a long procedure, not too complicated just a lot of steps. I suggest you put everything you take off next to each other with their screws and parts.( HAVE A NOTEPAD AND WRITE SOME STEPS YOURSELF/there is a possibility a may have forgotten a screw or step)

thermofuse, fuser lamp, upper and lower rollers, oil roller (always have a spare, replace when all blk or dry), scrapers and bushings (either a set or 2 if individual) look at bottom for pix.

1-turn off power and let fuser cool down

    2-lift ADF or top cover

3-open front door and left side door

4-remove the Back panel (4 screws) set aside

5-remove the glass holder bracket ( 2 screws / this holds the copy glass in place)

6-If you have a sorter move away from copier and remove the sorter bracket that is attached to the copier ( 2 screws)

7-remove the side panel it will include the top left of the copier along with the side

(you may have to remove the side door panel)

8-remove the green handle 1 screw / located inside the front left when you open the door
8-remove the screws holding the fuser 1 on each side

9-remove the connections 2- one big one and a smaller white tip one on the left

10-take out fuser set on a table where you have room to work

remove the oil roller assembly located on top of the fuser ( no screws just pull)

11- check the fuse, 2 screws remove and do a continuity check, if bad replace

11-check the lamp , this is a lamp that is the same lenght as the fuser and is Inside the top fuser

12-it has a bracket on both ends to hold the lamp and each end has a connector

I beleive the easiest one to remove is the one opposite the male plug, not sure if it's a plug in or screw anyway remove it and the backet holding the lamp and look at it

if its bad you will know right away it will look burnt and smoky inside it, if not it will be clear

if bad, detach the other side of lamp and pull out.

    If changing fuser rollers

13-remove clip holding gear ( set aside/do not lose/ pop off w/ flat screw driver)
14-remove bearings on each side held by a screws / pop out

15-remove rollers and replace NOTE THE DIRECTION OF THE UPPER ROLLER

    16-time to reassemble

17- put the bushings and bearings on/ for the bearings to fit you will need some pressure to make it go back in. DON'T FORGET THE SCREWS for the bearings.

Scrapers/claws/ fingers replace ( causes jams if worn) requires patience, do one to

get the feel, has to have the spring.on each ( they should already be there)

    From here just go backwards

take a look at the steps and Identify the parts to see if you understand. Let me know and good luck

Error code E004

According to the copier error code this is the problem of abnormal fuser temp. First check the electric outlet, where you have plugged the copier and also check the dc controller. Then fix the heater & ac driver also.

Error e000004-0010 how to solve

I'm not a Canon Copier Tec but I know E04's on Canons generally means heat/fuser error - ie fuser, usally fuser lamp, thermister or thermal fuse. Have fuser replaced.

Have it looked at, due to it requiring electrical knowledge, ie test heater lamp(open), thermal fuse(open), thermister(check for toner built up on face) with the user removed from printer (fuser=hot bit that paper goes threw, just before where paper exits to go to sorter) or just replace assem.

There maybe a reset required, on some canon models after problem has been fixed.

So here is a link with explaination of the reset on a canon model simular to yours

pls vote me to keep us alive
