Instructions to replace tail light

Lift the tailgate and you will find two screws at the top of the lens assembly, remove them. Pull on both sides of the lens directly out from the vehicle as there are two ridged prongs about middle of the lens. It will sound like something is breaking but it should come out with a little tugging. On the back of the now removed lens, turn the top plug a quarter turn and pull away from the back of the lens. Pull the bulb from the wired socket and replace. Install in reverse.

I need to replace one of the gauges (cracked the glass) on my Makita MAC5200 compressor. Is there somewhere I can find the instructions for doing so?

Makita has used several types of gauges over the years and all had removable lens/glass held on by screw or threaded lens. Most simple repair would be to purchase gauge and just swap out glass/lens. Order from www.toolpartsdirect.com. Good luck

I have a camera it's a canon S5 IS i let a friend borrow it he dropped it and now the lens won't go back in it says lens error restart camera i need help

    Hi,

Lens error occurred due to external shock, Now lens is prevented from properly extending or retracting.

    1) Avoid applying pressure to the lens and surrounding area:
    • Do not touch Lens while shooting.
    • Make sure the camera is off before the camera is placed back in the case.
    or..

    2) Check batteries and make sure that they have sufficient charge, the batteries may need to be recharged or replaced. follow the instruction to resolve the problem.
    • Remove the battery and wait 30 Seconds & reinsert the battery, if your camera has a backup or date and time battery, remove this battery as well. Removal of the backup battery will cause a full reset of the camera and will clear any settings.

If this will not solve the problem your device need service (repair)

My canon 24-105 lens was dropped in water and I want to service it. (The Canon service centre says they can fix it but at a high cost.) is there an assembly diagram or instructions

This is not a DIY repair. You need to have access to lens collimators and other specialist tools and also need to be able to remove and replace lens cement to have any chance of tackling this successfully.

The cost is high not only because some parts might need to be replaced but because the lens needs to be stripped down almost totally to ensure that no moisture remains trapped inside. Some of the materials used in the lens construction tend to absorb water and will either need to be replaced or removed and dessicated before being replaced. When originally built, most of the lens was assembled by robots but it's far more difficult and precise for a skilled human to dismantle and correctly reassemble a lens which will already have seen some wear and tear.

If every last drop of moisture is not removed then you can at the very least expect your lens to fog up regularly and to rapidly suffer the onset of lens fungus which will permanently damage the glass coatings. You'll also find that electronic parts will fail due to corrosion.

Sorry to be so negative but I've repaired (and also failed to repair) enough lenses in my time to have a good idea of where the limits lie in lens repair.

Your lens will cost around £800 to replace, so even if repairs cost half that then it's money well spent. Botched DIY repairs will leave the lens either worthless or completely uneconomic to repair.
