Can this model be upgraded from xp 32 bit to windows 7 64 bit with 2.5 gb of memory?

Yes you can however HP only supports Windows XP (32-Bit), Windows Vista (32 and 64 Bit) No official support for windows 7.

However Most modern PC's will run windows 7 and most drivers are available. Upgrade at your own risk.... There might be some drivers that you wont find and may cause problems with your PC.

But why upgrade to 64bit if you are not upgrading memory to 4GB+?

Running ubuntu on (old!) hp e-pc 42; need Windows. Would it be worthwhile installing Vista? How about 7? Thanks.

Based on the specs of your computer I don't recommend that you upgrade to either one of those. You would not want to use Vista because it would run really slow on your computer, and Vista itself is not very good. And if you can't run Vista, you most likely can't run Windows 7 because it requires even more than Vista.

I recommend that you use Windows XP, not only because aside from Windows 7 and Snow Leopard it is my favorite Operating System, it is also the OS that was originally shipped with that specific model computer.

Short answer: Go with Windows XP

Hope this helps!

In regards to upgrading from Windows Vista to Windows 7 the thing to look at is how long were you running Windows Vista before you did the upgrade.

Normally you would need to reinstall a few driver just because Windows 7 has a different kernel then Vista does but alot of times you are reinstalling the same drivers.

Normally when you are having the problems that you are having this is a sign that you had some problems in Windows before doing the upgrade. This is why in general when doing an upgrade it is good idea to do a full reinstall of the OS with your upgrade. Note with manfactured computers like your notebook what you should do is back your data then do a factory restore of your Windows Vista. After the restore you will have a clean base to do your upgrade on so Windows 7 should run fine.

Let me know if you have any more problems or questions

Can I run Windows 7 64-bit Home Premium on my HP Compaq Presario SR2170NX PC Desktop

This computer came with Vista Basic. You can upgrade Vista Basic to Windows 7 Premium but it depends on your hardware. Go here: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows/downloads/upgrade-advisor Run the upgrade advisor and follow their advice.

Upgrading the OS Windows XP not possible

Upgrading from OS Windows XP:

you can upgrade from Windows XP to Windows Vista(ultimate, premium, home, business.......),
you have to buy a Windows Vista CD and install a fresh copy or format.

Some Minimum Requirements:

i) Min 2GB RAM or atleast 1GB RAM(if you have>1GB RAM installation of Windows Vista will not continue)

II) External Graphic Card. for some versions of Windows Vista(to run Aero Interface, special feature only   in some versions of Windows Vista)

NOTE:

"Windows Vista Upgrade Advisor" is a software from Microsoft which you can download from internet, this  can help you determine which features and edition of Windows Vista will run on your computer.

i.e., when u load this software on windows xp it will suggest which upgrade version of windows vista          will suit your system(based on you system configuration. or hardware components.) and then            you can install the upgraded version of windows xp(mostly windows vista home,.........)

Thanking You

I need to reset my my computer t180 aspire please help

Hi,

If you are looking to install or up-grade the your computer to Windows Vista then the first thing you need to look at is the Hardware compatibility, I understand that you are using Acer Aspire T180 computer which must have had very high configuration, however I recommend you to please check if the system is 100% compatible with the Windows Vista software as there is no harm in just making sure of what it is rather than running into issues later so with the help of the link below you can download and run the Windows Vista Upgrade Advisor to know the system compatibility.

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=42B5AC83-C24F-4863-A389-3FFC194924F8&displaylang=en

Then once you know that the system is compatible with the Vista, you can now start the installation wizard. However do not worry, about the installation wizard asking you where to get installed as it is quite normal, you will have to provide the system with the hard-drive information, for it to get installed. The best way is to go with the default option that you see on your screen. Here are few links below through which you can download the guide for how to Up-grade to windows vista as well as for How to install Vista step-by-step. Download the guides and use them for you assistance.
