SOURCE: Sony STR DB-930 Receiver jumping into protector mode

I went through the amp/receiver and used small star washers on all the grounding screws I could find including the one securing the transformer, cleaned dust off all circuit boards, checked output transistors and fuses, all OK.

Re Assembled unit and it worked OK.

I will buy a fan and fan it to avoid sourcing heatsinks for the previusly suggested IC's.

Thanks for the technical help, sure solved my problem.

Regards

Darryl.

I've had this happen, it's when you have speaker wires crossed.....

SOURCE: hello. my sony receiver is flashing protector mode

More than likly the built in amplifier is dead and its time to lay it to rest. Before you do that, make sure all your positive and negitives are correct and that none of the wires are touching one another.

SOURCE: My SONY STR-DE835 receiver amplifier is showing

These models are known for this issue.
I've had my share in the shop here.
Disconnect all speakers, turn speakers off, try headphones only
If it still persists then there is either :
1. power supply capacitors gone bad or 2. The thermal fuse in the transformer is open.
A tech can very easily find out if the thermal fuse is open by checking the primary of the transformer
if the plastic is shrinking away from the power supply capacitors then they've gone bad

Look for any bulging on metal capacitors. As they age they can fail, but won't show it until power is stopped for a time. Then when you try to power up the system the fault shows itself Replace all that look that way

Problem with SONY STR-DA555ES home stereo receiver popping & going into protector mode

You may have the speakers incorrectly connected or the speakers you are using have an impedence that is too low for the amp to support.

The receiver will be on for a while 5mins.or so, then it will make this loud sound as it goes into protector mode...what is this and how do I fix this. I have it connected to the TV, DVD Player, CD, VHS...

you have speaker wires that are shorting out. unhook all the wires and ohm them out. Find out which one is shorting. I've had this problem before. It's fine until you turn it up, Then the receiver turns off and goes into protect mode. It's just a short in the wiring,.

Str de 435 I was watching a movie nothing was being moved when suddenly I heard the relay click the protector mode came on thank you

Relay click and Protect display indicates that receiver got problem in output amplifier section and most probably output chips got defective. This kind of problem is not user level repair and local repair shop will help you to get it fixed.
Thanks.
