Ok the ps3 cd drive top and bottom are synchronize together to work together. You need to take the cd drive apart again hook it up to the ps3 without the top lid of the cd drive on and press eject. The simply put the cd drive lid on directly from the top not to one side but directly down ontop of the bottom part of the cd drive. Then down put any screws in start missing with the disc see if it goes in and out. If you still hear odd noises you can do it this way 3-4 times until you have the top lid aligned with the bottom part. Or another way a little more difficult is get the disc drive to have a disc in it and take the cd drive apart. Then with the top part in your hand slide a disc in the top part and hold the disc through the middle hole with your finger and simple place it back on the bottom part of the drive. Its an easy fix but a little hard to explain if you still need help let me know. Also it could just be your gears needing greasing. You can use a qtip and any thick greasy solution. I've used baby lotion **** paste vasoline all of those at diffrent times when I couldnt find anyhing else and that will fix it.
He is full of **** trying to scam you. It sounds like your disc drive is out of alignment with the top part of the disc drive so the clicking your hearing is the bottom of your disc drive trying to eject and the top is holding its on as the top has sliding parts that meet perfectly with the bottom part of the disc drive so it sucks the game in and out. You need to open it yourself with a philips head screwdriver you dont have to worry about the motherboard or any other part just take the drive out undo the ribbons connect the drive to the motherboard then it should pop right out. Been awhile since I took a slim apart they dont break as often (yet). From here you should have a metal caseing over the disc drive maybe not with the slim. You pop the metal caseing off the you have a plastic disc drive. Take the top part off maybe requires small phillips screw driver. Since you have a disc in it when you take the lid off hook the cables back to the ps3 motherboard and to the cd drive. Now press eject with the top lid off. Then put the top lid back on and insert a disc it should work. Then just put it back together. Theres a little motherboard on that cd drive do not short it out on anything. You can do this if you cant worst is youll have to buy a new cd drive from the repair shop you mentioned. Then they should charge to much labor to put it back together as you had it apart when you got there. But you should beable to do it if you need help taking it apart just google or youtube slim ps3 disc drive repair or how to take apart slim ps3. Hope this helps if not let me know.
If your ps3 disc drive still makes sound maybe the top lid of the disc drive is not in the correct spot. Have you opened it before? Thats how the disc drive will get out of line. If you havent opened it before it might just need a good cleaning and lubricated. How to fix it if its out of line is to take ps3 lid off take disc drive lid off hook it up and place a cd in it and let the drive accept the disc then put everything back together with the disc in the disc drive. Now it should work right.
I believe that the command systems have an updated software kit and you can have it flashed at the dealer. I have never seen the flash software at an independent shop. Although you can have the c.d. drive replaced at any reputable mercedes repair facility because they will have to have a command capablility software to communicate with the unit. I would try to remove the power fuse and disconnect the power for 10 minutes to drain the capacitors and see if the power cycle resets your disc drive. you should have a fuse schematic either in the l. side of your dash under the plastic cover accessiblewith the driver's door open or in the tool kit in the trunk orin the l or r side of the trunk in a foam insert-they put them in various places in various models and I do not recall exactly which spot it is in. I hope I have been helpful.
