Question about Canon PowerShot S5 IS Digital Camera

1 Answer

Poor picture quality

I've used my Canon Powershot S5 IS for a year or so now. I loved it up until the last two weeks. Suddenly my picture quality is horrible. I'm able to get clearer pictures from my son's $10 camera. They are not focused at all. Help, please.

I've had the same problem with picture quality. The objects in the middle of the viewfinder are out of focus on the manual setting while the objects in the background on the edges are in perfect focus. I've tried changing all of the manual settings and it still doesn't focus correctly.

I have the same problem but it is mainly close ups at the moment. Distance photos are reasonably sharp but not as good as they should be.

Some one might have messed up with your camera.
some one might have changed the resolution, aperture, manual focus etc of the camera.
Try setting them according to your needs or try resetting the camera.

My aperture or lens isn't opening - can't take a picture. It worked fine a couple of weeks ago and when I tried to use it this week it was a no go.

Aperture and lens are two different things. If you mean the camera is taking black pictures (something common for the S5), then see this link.

But if you mean that the lens isn't extending properly, then see this video:

I have a Canon Powershot A60. Has always worked well until recently my photos contain a green fluorescent like outline on some of the items in my picture.Looks like stalactites at times. Help!!

You've been pretty lucky. :)
I had an A75, loved it!
It lasted me about 4 years before I started to have problems. Sadly, at the time this wasn't publicised, so I wasn't aware of any free repairs.

Please take a look here, and see if there is a remedy available for your camera.

I want best battery for canon power shotA400

You too? :) Great little camera - but woefully inadequate power-sourcing.

My PowerShot A400 now only runs on 2x Energizer 'Ultimate Lithium'
batteries at $12 a pair... and last no longer than three weeks or about 50 images.

Won't be buying one of these again. I love the camera - but changing the batteries every few days is just way too expensive. Poor design.

Black screen when taking pictures

It's very possible that the problem is that the shutter is stuck, which is a known Canon issue on the powershot cameras, mainly on the S2 and S3 models, which it happens after some time (weeks or months) thata camera is not used.

Unfortunately the repair of it requires a complete disassembly of the camera, including the lens, fix it, and then put back together everything.

Definitely requires the skills, tools and experience to do it, so it's recommended that a professional camera repair center is performing this type of repair.

If you look for a reliable and low cost repair service for it, you can look in ebay for such repair services.

Example, look for seller ID Great_items_2004 or with the keywords "Shutter black S3".

Best regards,
