Most likely a failed "spinner" assy. The roaring that you hear is the bearing telling you it's had enough and has gone on strike.

MAJOR job! If it's over 5 years old, I recommend calling a professional and get quotes. Then decide what you want to do.

If it's less than 5 years old, it should be under warranty. Contact Sears. Tell them you have a failed spinner and tub bearing assy. and have them do the repair.

*Just a quick note. You should use only HE detergent in these machines.

Whirlpool washer WTW6400SW very loud spin cycle, sounds like airplane taking off

Most likely it is the spin tube bearing worn. Reguires some know how and special tools. Requires a major dismantle of the machine and usally I did these repairs in the shop. Bearing will eventually sieze over use and time. Labor will probably exceed the value of the machine.

Maytag Neptuen Washer makes loud noise when spinning. Sounds like an airplane taking off.

The spin bearing or basket drive may be worn or seized. These components allow the inner tub to spin freely inside the outer tub. When this is the problem, you usually hear a loud sound during the spin cycle.Get the spin bearing and motor checked.Replace the faulty. You can get required parts from www.repairclinic.com

Thanks. Keep updated for any more query. You can rate this solution and show your appreciation.

Our washer sounds like an airplane during the spin cycle. We have tried to balance it at least 5 times. Any solutions?

It sounds like your drum bearings are going bad. Open the door and gently lift the drum taking the weight off of it. Is there play or a clunking sound? Depending on your skill level I may be able to walk you thru it, but you pretty much have to disassemble the whole machine and the parts are about $70 ( 2 bearings and a seal). Frigidare only sells the drum assembly which is around $250-300. Let me know what you find.

If you mean a jet aircraft, that is normal. Front loaders achieve amazing spin rates.

Loud noise

Most noises from a washing machine occur during the spin cycle. If you hear loud thumping during the spin, the load of clothes may have become unbalanced. Stop the washer and redistribute the clothes, then re-start it. Repeat these steps if necessary

Hope it may help you;

Loud noise on spin cycle

How did that answer get an 83% rating? It is absolutely useless. My washer has the exact same problem as described above.During the spin cycle it sounds like a jet engine. It kinda sounds like the belt hitting the drive wheel but may be bearings in the motor.
