Power supply for Compaq 1501 15" LCD Monitor

Monitor Compaq 1501 15" LCD
My friend got me a monitor 1501, but didn't find the DC power supply. Now I have bought a supply with 12 voltage, 3,3 amphere, but there's two possibilities to connect to the power supply: + or - How do I know who's the right? Can I damage the monitor if I connect the wrong way?

Yes, into the monitor it's only one solution, but on the little thing you put into the monitorconnection there are two possibilites ("+" and "-"), the cable fit to both... which one is the right?? The power supply is not the original one for Compaq 1501.

Normally it should be a sign on the monitors backside or in the manual of the monitor, but I've checked both, and it isn't...

I've got the manual for the monitor Compaq 1501 as a pdf-file, but in that file there is nothing written about polarity for the power supply...

Compaq 1720 monitor: the green light on the power supply went away, the voltage converter was very hot and the monitor went blank

You need to find out if the power supply is still putting out 12vdc, you may have to test it with a load (use 12v car bulb such as the brake lamp). It is getting hot can be due to bad power supply or too much load because of short circuits in the monitor. Please post back what you find about the power supply first.

A menu keeps flashing on my monitor so fast I can not read it and it will not stop. Black box with grey edge. Compaq 5017M monitor

mrsrobins849, if monitor manufacturing date (on rear of unit) is anywhere close to 2003-2004 then trade unit for new wide screen only if problem of flashing "menu" goes away when you connect a borrowed substitute monitor to your pc. Will your monitor "act" same when connected to "known-good" "fully-booted" pc that will display the WIN-desktop?? Most problems with "cold-cathode-fluorescent-lamp" "back-lit" lcd monitors can be attributed to their internal or external "switch-mode-power-supply" DC voltages degrading over time with use.

Sylvania CL772B LCD monitor has no power

The board with 200-100-SH700 on it may be the problem. I came up empty trying to find anything with that number, there should be some other number either ink-stamped on the board or on a paper sticker.
Google can be your friend if you find the right number.
Somewhere there may be someone with one of the same with a broken screen. Ebay?

Won't power up. Press power button, turns green then orange.

Good day sir/maam, Hi, If the LCD is under warranty, use it, they will replace the LCD monitor for free. If not, you may need spend for a Power supply board, to repair one.

There are two boards usually found on an LCD monitor, one main board that controls the LCD screen, back light, inverter, controls and sound. the second board is the power supply board, which accepts mains voltages 90v-240v AC and convert them to DC to power the entire monitor.
If however you may bring it to a repair shop or dealer, they will replace the power board, and there you go. the monitor is done.

Flickers until all monitor area turns gray - just like tv without signal

Sounds to me like bad caps on the power board or main board.

The monitor is faulty for sure. Bring it back to the shop and tell them the problem is still happening and ask them to leave it on connected to a computer overnight since it takes a while to happen. They should see it happen and then troubleshoot it further.

When power light is green I have no display on the screen

dwanlesso6, Please tell me brand of monitor and if it is LCD/FPD and size 15,17 19 etc. If it is an LCD then it is possible that the DC power supply and or inverter board has failed. Here is short PS101 lesson. All electronic things (Stereo, printer, radio, computer, TV,) all require DC voltage. You get AC Voltage from outlet on wall. the two don't mix. ever!! All the above mentioned things have AC to DC power conversion circuits. They are called power supplys. Only your's and everybody's LCD monitor has two. One makes DC for the monitor logic/digital kinds of stuff, 5.0volts and also makes a
second and higher voltage ( 12v or 15v or 24v) to send to the other power supply which is called an inverter power supply. The inverter PS changes DC into a higher frequency Square Wave AC voltage to power up the Fluorescent Tubes that make your display "bright white" !! Do you own any of those new style light bulbs. You know... the ones that look like small coiled fluorescent tubes and screw into the same socket that previously held the old filiament type of light bulb. Well your dealing with the same technology in your monitor. Just for kicks, you can go to www lcd-monitor-repair. com. Don't pay any attention to the 'advertisement' !!!! just look at the pics of what is inside an LCD/FPD.
The advert just wants you to buy books on LCD/FPD repair.. The best advice I can tell you is try to locate some repair shop that specializes in FPD troubleshooting&repair. Hell, I too am waiting for this 19in GatewayFPD to die. Hope is later.. not sooner, or I'll be in same boat w/LCD/FPD for anchor. Good luck. Got flat screen as a gift

This monitor requires a power supply with a POSITIVE tip polarity.
Monitor requires 12 Volt DC @ 3.3 Amps output.
Make sure voltage is 12 Volts DC [absolute requirement]

Power Supply can have greater than 3.3 Amp capacity. More amp capacity increases price, so I wouldn't go for more than 5 Amps [minimum 3300 milliAmps, 5000 milliAmps will be more than adequate].

Put a surge protector on your computer and monitor to extend their life....better yet, a power conditioning battery backup system, that can supply constant voltage, to compensate line voltage when A/C, furnace, or other major appliance kicks on.
