Question about Creative Labs Audigy 4 Sound Card

1 Answer

No Windows Media Player Audio from Surround channels

I have a Dell XPS gen4 with SB Audigy 2ZS Platinum card and can't get audio from any channels but front ones using Windows Media Player V11. (I'm sending this audio to TV monitor along with S-video from GeForce 6800 output). The front channels remain connected to PC speakers and work fine with everything. The missing audio outputs are present for every other app - video streams, QuickTime player, DVD's etc - just nothing on WMP.

Tried this solution but ended up losing the audio that had been working - ie DVDs, streaming video (YouTube), Nero, VLC. It seems changing these settings in WMP makes global changes in XP. I'm going to see if I have latest driver for Audigy sound card - didn't check that before.

OK - this solution combined with the latest Soundblaster driver (dated July 08) did the job. Thanks for the help!

On WMP - go to Tools > Options > Devices > Select Speakers > click Properties > Audio Device to Use - ensure you select your audio Card (Not direct sound - just a precaution) > Advanced > Volume Tab > Speaker settings click on Advanced > Select the type of Speakers you have. - Hope this helps, let me know!

I have a Dell dim 4700. A few months ago I started to have some static on my speakers. Now that is about all that I hear. I have already pulled the sound card and put it back in . I have also moved the...

You'll probably need a new sound card but the best way to verify this, is to pull the sound card out completely and use the integrated sound thats on the motherboard, you should see more sound outputs near the ps2 ports where you would hook up a keyboard or mouse.

If you get good sound out of that then you know for sure your sound card is bad, if you get static even out of those sound outputs on the motherboard then you know that your speakers are bad.

Before you toss the card, try the AUDIO CLEANUP utility included with the software that should have come with the card and even get back to Creative to obtain this software before giving up.
