Installing camera assist software(webcam) on TOSHIBA
I had a problem with my webcam saying "locked by another application". I read alot of ppl have had that problem so i followed their step by step advice. It didn't work... So i took advice to uninstall it and re install it in D drive. Now my problem is, and it sounds really dumb, i dont know how to re-install it. It was already installed when I bought my laptop and Im almost certain I didnt receive and software or disks or anything for it. What shall I do??? :S :S :S

Follow these steps to re-install the driver for the webcam. You will need to be logged in as an Administrator or have an Administrator password ready.
1. Click the Windows Start button.
2. Click Control Panel, System and Maintenance and then Device Manager.
3. Right-click on Chicony USB 2.0 Camera and select Update Driver Software. A yellow exclamation point indicates that the camera is recognized by Windows but is not working properly, probably because of problem with the device driver
4. Select Browse my computer for the driver software.
5. Select Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer.
6. Select USB Video Device from the list, and click Next.
7. If the message “Windows encountered a problem installing the driver software for your device” appears, click Close.
8. Restart Windows.
The webcam should now work properly.

did you install the driver for the webcam ? or just the software try this press your windows key ( by the alt key) and pause break ( uper right corner)
then goto device manager
look for any yellow or red x's probly will be one for your camera or it maybe listed in other devices
here are the steps that you need to do.. First turn off User Account Control (UAC),. That is under control panel. Then download camera assistant software and save it in your desktop desktop. You can get it at support.toshiba.com for US model or toshiba.ca/support for canadian model. Make sure you properly save it on your desktop. Then uninstall camera assistamt software from the add remove programs. Re start your notebook. Then install the camera assistant software. Re start again your notebook. Launch camera assistant software. It will work this time.
When you mean "send videos", did u meant video conferencing with your friends? If that's the case, are you using skype or yahoo messenger to do video conference? Try running the Camera Assistant Software, it's an application by toshiba to view your cam offline (no internet needed). If that doesn't work, try re-installing the software. You can find it here. If you can use that software & can see yourself on the offline webcam tool but not on your third party software, try the "Roll Back Driver" option (Device manager > Imaging Devices > your_webcam > properties > driver > roll back driver)
You need to uninstall first the camera assistant software under control panel, programs and features. Once you've uninstall it, Re-install the software update that you've downloaded. It should allow you to re install it. After installaing and before you restart, go to user accounts and turn off the User Account Control.
I guarantee you that it will work this time and you wont have the error message again.
ya vista have some problems go to your internet option and download manually the latest update of your webcam .this may be a problem because u are using latest version of yahoo but your web cam do not support it or either add xp also in ur laptop.
I don't know what exactly fixed the problem but I managed to fix it. I'm using a Toshiba Satellite A215 by the way.
Here's what I did
Control Panel >> System Maintenance >> Device Manager
Go to Imaging Devices and right-click "Chicony USB 2.0 Camera" and choose "Update Driver Software"
First I clicked on "Search automatically for updated driver software"
but everything was already up to date. So then I went to "Browse my
Computer for Driver Software" and then to "Let Me Pick from a List". I
updated the USB Video Device and rebooted but that only made it worse I
think. Then I tried updating one of the "Chicony USB 2.0 Camera"'s and
that did the trick. Yey. So now my webcam works.
