What do you mean does not boot? As in you hit the power button and it stays on a black screen, or it boots up, bios loads, but it doesnt have a HDD to load the OS off of.

Asus k43sm doesn't boot after application of thermal paste

If you put thermal paste on the processor, you need to recheck the processor to be sure that it is seated right, no pins are bent and that the ZIF socket is put back in locked position. If this was not the processor that you put the paste on, then it might not be electrically neutral and you have shorted it out with the wrong paste.

My computer is powering on but it isn't booting up.

You can check your BIOS at startup. Right after the Beep press F2. sometimes it's a different key depending on the mobo. Change the boot order so your CD or DVD device is read before the hard drive. That way you can put in your linux boot disc, (or M$ Windoze)and boot from that disc.
If there is an error there will be a series of beeps. Those different beeps mean different things, check your motherboard manual onlineif you don't have a manual to see what's not detecting. Either graphic card, memory, keyboard, etc. Hope this helps you out

Sometimes this can be even simpler. Put in your Windows CD and boot to safe mode command prompt and type fixmbr. This will repair your master boot record for your primary boot harddisk. Eject the windows CD and reboot and see if it fixes your problem.
