Makita 2012 planer, bought in 1990. a 12 inch board comes out thicker on one edge than the other by about 1/32 inch; maybe 1/16" is there a way to fix this? thanks

the cutter roll/blade is not parallel to the cutting deck so one end needs adjustment
it could be from the cutters being blunt at one end and that will produce extra pressure at the other end or is not cutting as efficiently as the other end resulting in the problem

How to Use a Pipe Cutter?

Pipe cutters are really useful tools that can be used in the house to cut pipes that are made from metal or plastic. You could always try using a saw of some kind but pipe cutters will give you a much straighter edge.

Here are some basic instructions to help you successfully use a pipe cutter.

1. Decide exactly where on the pipe you would like to make a cut.
2. Loosen the handle on the pipe cutter and place it around the pipe.
3. Now tighten the cutter until the blade is in contact with the pipe.
4. Turn the pipe cutter a few turns around the pipe and it will score a line into the pipe.
5. Keep turning the pipe cutter around until you've cut the pipe off.
6. In order to create a nice straight edge inside the cut pipe you need to take the bottom blade out of the pipe cutter.
7. Place it into the cut end of the pipe and turn it around a few times until it's nice and smooth.

What is a paper cutter?

A paper cutter is meant to cut large pieces of paper in a perfectly straight way. The tool is about 30 cm large on each side. It will have a grid drawn on the surface or a ruler along the top. On the right is a blade and it is attached to one corner. The blade lifts up to cut straight edges wherever you wish to cut. There is also a finger guard as a protective feature.

When cutting with mywild thing it alwaqys cuts to my left and not in a straight line.

The cutting teeth are longer one side than the other, this is always a problem if you sharpen the chain more on one side than the other, you will need to check which side is longer and file them down to the same length as the other side, this is why when sharpening a chain you always do the same amout of file strokes to every cutter.

MY CHAIN SAW SEEMS TO BE CUTTING ON AN ANGLE BUT THE BAR IS STRAIGHT, ANY ADVICE OF WHAT CAN BE CAUSING THIS PROBLEM

If the bar is straight, and the rails of the bar are equal both sides, then it is due to the cutters being longer on one side of the chain than the other, when you sharpen a chain it is important to do the same amount of file strokes on each cutter, this helps to keep all the cutters the same lenght. Measure the cutters and file the longer side down to match.

Chainsaw does not cut straight, veres off at an angle only happened since adjusting the chain ,is there an adjustment for this?

Typically this is a problem with sharpening the chain....if the chain has been sharpened unevenly (different angles on the cutters) it will drift to one side. Also most people tend to be more comfortable sharpening one side than the other and the teeth on that side will get worn faster.
As long as it is that right chain for the saw / bar and it is sharpened evenly it should cut straight.
There is no adjustment per se.
Take care.

Media problem during printing

If the media is coimng out straight, then look at the cutter mounting.
If the cutter is slightly off angle then it can be corrected on the mounting beneath the right lower side, and the lft upper (head latch) side.

Try printing a barcode or straight line of print on the top and bottom of the label. Look at the print in relation to the cut.

If it is off , it may also be the printhead azimuth.(angle of the head in relation to the platen roller(roller beneath the head).
There is an adjustment fo tthe head to suare it up to the platen.

Tapering

First, unplug the jointer, then, insure that all the cutters are set to the same height. Raise the outfeed table with a straight piece of wood or a framing square sitting on it and extending over the cutters. Each cutter should just touch the board without raising it. The infeed table is lowered by how deep you want to cut.
Always look at the grain of the board you are cutting. Never allow the cutters to strike grain that is running down into the cutters. It will chip out chunks of wood. The grain should be tapering down away from the cutters, back toward you, never toward them.

The tapering you mentioned usually happens when the outfeed table is lower than the cutter tops.

Adjustment of sharpened cutter of porter cable 653 versa plane

There are two adjustments. First find the screw on the right side that allows loosening of rear baseplate. Once loose, another screw jacks the base up or down. They are both hex heads on mine.

Turn jack screw until a straight edge along the base just clears the cutter. Spin the cutter once to make sure both edges are the same depth and that both clear the straight edge.

For the front shoe, turn adjustment handle to zero. Remove the adjustment handle from the front shoe and find two vertical slots at the front. Two screws (hex heads) allow loosening of shoe. Once loose, the shoe can be adjusted by sliding up or down. With a straight edge held along the rear base and touching the front base, align the front shoe so straight edge barely clears blade and tighten screws. The front and back base should line up. Replace adjustment lever and recheck zero cut clearance as well as maximum depth. Readjust as necessary. If zero clearance is not an issue, the bases can be set to allow deeper cuts than factory specified. It's a powerful planer so if you're cutting softer woods, a deeper cut might be desired.
