SOURCE: mx-d402t jvc cd player - trays will not open

Just got one of these at the dump. Two problems quickly jumped out at me:

1. As mentioned above, the CD trays stuttered and clattered but would not open.
2. Volume control is unable to be reduced from the highest level (50).

CD tray table was an easy fix.

After removing the 8 cover screws (6 on the back and 2 on the sides) and the 6 tray mounting screws (two through the back and one in each corner) I unplugged the only electrical connector - it is a simple push in pull out type. Note the way it plugs in before pulling out - it doesn't matter which end which you unplug. I set the entire changing assembly aside (outside the tower) on a speaker - just for height because the cable is fairly short. Then hooked the electrical strip back up and turned the power on to the main unit. After setting the controls to CD and pushing the eject button for tray #1 it only took a gentle nudge of the linkage to allow the entire stack to free up. Cycled through the trays several times and each slip in and out as designed.

The next step is not for the faint of heart. Since something (in this case just some cat hair and normal 10 years of dust) was causing the trays to stick it was decided that the entire unit should be thoroughly cleaned. With most electronic devices as long as there is no power on the component it is perfectly okay to wash the entire unit with hot (really hot) water from your kitchen sink. A soft tooth brush and some liquid detergent help the process. After a good long wash and rinse, gently shake as much excess water from the piece and find a supply of warm flowing air. Set the component in front of the air supply and allow it to dry for a looong looong time. 3-4 hours is good.

Hook it back up, cycle the trays and observe the function, paying special attention to where the moving parts make contact. Then shut it down (or not depending on your confidence in your hands) and apply some WD-40 to a q-tip. Using the swab apply a small (the key word is small - you do not want oil based liquids to get anywhere near the CD reading LED) amount of lubricant to the previously observed bearing points. This procedure is best accomplished as the linkages are moving throughout their entire stroke but be careful to not catch the swab in the moving parts.

Now (while I wait for my C changer to dry out), I will trouble shoot the volume problem. If it is something that can be fixed, I will update this post. Please don't assume that just because something has some years on it that one should "expect" it to fail. Oftentimes it just needssome TLC.

hi,
Is there is power in your system. is there is any power indication.if not then you have to check the Powre transformer, its fuse, and the small standby transformer near the power transformer. If the stanby transformer is faulty then there will no power indication in your system.

If there is power and the cd is not reading then, You have to check the laser pickup unit inside your system. First of all purchase a laser cleaning cd and insert the same in to your system. If will clean the laser pickup unit to some extent. if then also it is not reading any cd then the laser pickup is faulty. As it has a changer mechanisum it will be difficult to you to replace the lase pickup unit.Because you have to remove so many parts from the mechanisum to reach to the laser pickup unit. If so try to consult some one experienced in it.
ok

My jvc mx c33 will not play cd's that I burn, plays store bought ones fine. I am using Roxio NXT Pro to make my cd's on to a .cda format. The jvc mx c33 doesn't recognize the disk, just says there is

Are you closing the disc? If so are you using CRD or CRDW. If you are using CDRW it will not burn in the proper output format. If you use CDR only it should. Also try recording at a slower speed. It has helped me in the past to do so.
A great program to try is CDBurnerXP, and it's free. After you record it then put it back in and run it again, but this time just select "Disc" then from the drop down menu Disc Information [CTRL+I] and read what format you ended up with. Remove that and check a store bought disc and compare.

Where OH Where can you buy parts for a JVC MX-C33 compact componet system. I have gone to JVC and they are so very limited!!

Most of these CD drawers are driven by a small belt that's either broken or come off. All you need do is find the belt, measure the diameter in MM and then put "??MM drive belt" into Google. You don't have to be precise with the measurement. So if it's a 45MM a 40 or 50MM will do.

JVC xl-fz258 won't open to eject cd, won't play

The basic problem is that the drive mechanism has failed. The problem with CD ejection can be caused by binding in the tray or a weakened ejection motor

JVC MX-C33 Tape Drive Problem

there are small rubber belts that drive the tape spindle that makes the tape play! Over time these stretch and become loose and make the tapes play slowly and even shut down (replace belts and it should be fine) these belts are located in back of tape spindel and are about two inches long!
