My printer cartridge has gone beserk

I just cleaned my printer for the first time.  Now the indicator light says there's a paper jam when there isn't and the cartridge goes back and forth violently.

    Thanks Ginko for your suggestion. Now I can't access the cartridge at all. After it goes back and forth, it locks on the right side. Even when I unplug the power cable, I can't move it. I'd appreciate other suggestions from other experts.

Your carriage drive belt is slipping.
The service station is on the far right and must retract or the carriage will collide with it.
The service station cleans the print nozzles and caps them when the printer is idle.
When the printer was working properly you may have noticed some motor sounds just prior to printing.

Do a reset.
Unplug the power, press and hold in buttons # and 6, and plug in the power.

Follow the instructions below to resolve the issue you are experiencing.

1) Turn off the printer and remove all paper from the paper tray & disconnect it from the computer.
2) With the printer off, check for any obstructions such as torn paper or foreign objects.
3) Turn on the printer (still disconnected from the computer) and check the lights / lcd screenmy printer cartridge has gone beserk - mag-glass_10x10.gif.

4) Place 20-30 sheets of paper in the printer, ensuring none of the paper is torn or creased.
5) Make sure that the paper is flush with the far right edge of paper tray, move the left edge paper guide over so that it touches the left side of the paper.
6) Try to feed paper manually (using the paper feed button).

7) Before re-connecting the printer to the computer, uninstall the printer driver and restart the computer.
8) Re-install the printer driver.

That is probably liquid damage.

Open all doors, take off cartridges and unplug power cord and USB.

Restart printer, if it does not work leave it to rest overnight.

Then come back to us in 24 hours reporting the outcome.

    If the cartridge locks on the side then you reset and energize the printer by unplugging and plugging back power.

    Before hiding in the corner the printer carriage will go back and forth a couple of times. You can lock the carriage before it goes to the corner using a plastic shape near to the corner.

    The carriage will stay there clicking because the traction belt is slippering when you do this.
    Quickly extract the cartridge and release the carriage.

    I do this every day, and I haven't damaged any printer until today, however , bear in mind that this procedure can damage printer parts.

    If you do not want to use the carriage stop procedure above, the standard way would be removing the cover, by undoing the screws at the bottom, then removing the cartridge, this will take longer but is a safer way to get out the cartridges..

The Ready (green) and Error (red) lights on the top of the printer may be the first indication of trouble. The status of the lights, on, off or flashing, indicates your printer status, as described below. The Status Alert window in the EPSON Status Monitor 3 utility indicates what type of error has occurred and offers you a possible solution. Output Paper Jam

Paper Out/Feed Jam

Front Cover Open

Paper Size Warning

Not All Pages Are Printed

This warning is displayed if an Insufficient Memory to Print Current Page error has occurred while Auto Continue is set to On. Click Close on the EPSON Status Monitor 3 window that appears to dismiss the warning.

Warming Up

Control panel: Ready light flashing
Indicates that the printer is warming up to process and print data.

Replace Photoconductor Unit

Control panel: Ready light flashing (flashes at longer intervals than usual)
Indicates that the photoconductor unit is close to the end of its service life (less that 5%). Prepare a new photoconductor unit to replace the current one. See Photoconductor Unit for instructions.
To temporarily dismiss the warning, click Close on the EPSON Status Monitor 3 window that appears. Resetting the photoconductor unit also clears the warning.

Toner Low

Orange light blinking, cleared paper jam, changed printer cartridge, won't print subsequent documents.


Double check all doors/ rollers for small pieces of paper stuck in the rollers. Sometimes just opening the door in question and closing will reset the paper jam sensors. Paper jams can be smaller than your pinky finger nail. So double check,

The Lexmark x342n all in one printer gives the error code 200.20 i took out the paper jam and tried to print again but it still gives the same fault i also can the drum and tried again but it only...


General tip: If the paper tears when you pull a jam out of the printer, spread the paper out and make sure you have all of the pieces. A small shred left inside can cause another jam.

"I also can the drum" - does this mean you discarded the printer cartridge? I've never seen a cartridge cause a jam. Usually an accordion-fold jam in this area is the result of the fuser rollers not turning or a torn fuser sleeve. A jam without an accordion fold indicates that the paper did not make it into the toner deposition area soon enough - this could be a problem with the pickup roller or the next set of rollers. Worn or dirty rollers can work intermittently before they quit completely.

Also, check the paper detection flag to make sure it isn't hanging up (this is a black plastic tab that sticks into the paper path just before the paper goes under the cartridge, and is pushed up or down by the paper). Look for the U-shaped optical detector that is interrupted by this flag, and make sure it isn't blocked by foreign material.

Paper jam light will not go off and there is not paper jam in the unit.


Over time paper dust and toner residue can build up around the drum and paper feeder rollers. Open your printer and remove the toner cartridge and Drum unit. Use a soft brush to clean any residue. Replace toner cartridge and drum unit.
A tiny bit of paper can cause the paper jam light to stay lit.

No paper light ligted even after paper is loaded


Flashing resume light also can mean:

1. cartridge is missing or an incorrect print cartridge is installed
2. cartridge is out of ink
3. dirty cartridge contacts
4. paper jammed

Check are cartridges firmly snapped into place and not empty. Use water to wash copper on cartridges if contacts are dirty.

How to change ink cartridges? Release jammed paper? Paper won't feed!


Sounds like it needs cleaning:

You will need : 1 can of "compressed air", 1 container of ether rubbing alcohol or some form of Goo-Gone.

1. In short blasts (NOT LONG ONES) blow through the paper path. Open any paper jam access trays before doing this so the bits escape.

2. Using a SMALL amount of Goo-Gone and either a Q-Tip or small dust free cloth, clean all the rubber rollers on the bars. Cheap paper leaves a fine dust and after time will make the wheels very slick.

Doing this every other month can save you from jams and is just a good maintenance plan for your printer.

Also don't use 'cheap paper'.

Paper light says on.. wont reset after jam is cleared


We have a few of the HL-2070N's and I have seen this issue on a few of them. Usually it indicates one of several instances that can be found on Brothers website in the FAQ's about what does the LED indicate area.

The main solution I have found is that depending on where the paper jammed it has affected the drum/toner cartridge assembly somehow or another.
  • I recommend taking the Toner Cartridge out of the drum unit
  • clean the corona wire by moving the blue tab at the front of the drum unit back and forth several times
  • I have even used can air here to get it even better all around the drum unit not just at the corona wire area
  • After make sure all is clean put all back together
This has cleared up most all of my paper jam LED issues and allowed for further printing.

light explain link check first!.... paper jam light indicates a few things ie paper mismatch.

possible dirty feed roller, confirm by using bypass slot.

slightly damp rag on rubber feed roller to clean if the issue
