Question about Smeg SE399X/5 Stainless Steel Electric Single Oven
I have a SA 398 X1 about 7 years old and the door won't close completely. There is only a gap of around 5mm and the oven doesn't seal. Do I need to replace the hinges? A second problem is that the upper left side of the oven including function knob becomes very hot. The right side is quite cool to touch. I don't think this is related to the door as the gap is bigger on the right hand side. I'm wary of sinking a lot of money into it as I have already had to replace the rear element at some cost. Any advice appreciated.

SOURCE: SMEG SA 398X
OK I have just moved into an apartment with this model (SA 398 X/1) and was searching for a user guide (no luck yet).
Anyhow my apartment was owned by a bachelor and it looks as though he hardly used the oven so everything's still intact.
I'm in Australia and these numbers are in Celsius so I hope they work for you.
From top Right (starting at the 2 o'clock position) the four numbers going clockwise downwards are:
Then from the left side (starting at 7 o'clock position) going clockwise upwards:
250 - with dots arching above the 250
Hope this helps -

If the fan is running, then it is safe to say that the oven element has gone.
Replace with a new one,(element that is).,
Plz rate this solution.

SOURCE: no heat when i switch oven on
There is no doubt that it is the element that has failed, so all you need to do is replace the fan oven element.
If you can see a removable panel at the rear of the oven ,remove that, and you should see the element.
Remove and replace.
If ther is no removable panel then you will have to access it from the rear of the oven cabinet.
Plz rate my solution.

SOURCE: Smeg oven door off hinges
go to the last couple of pages on the pdf...I found that the little notch on the bottom part of the hinge fitted on the outside edge of the slot - not as it appeared (to me) on an internal sort of bar. Looked at the smaller of the two ovens and its the same (doh! only made sence when I looked at the diagram!!)

Here's a picture of the panel... BTW does anyone know the wiring / have a wiring diagram for the door switch as mine was swapped around by an oven guy just to get it running but now I have a new switch and can't remember how it all goes!!
