Hi There, Windows will generally restart one or more times during the "installing windows" phase of installation. This is normal. Just be patient, and let it run. If there was a problem with your hardware you'd see a blue screen with some information on it detailing hardware issues. Slower PC's can take hours to install everything properly. Let it run overnight, It should be just fine.
Now you are in a deep trouble!
But hey! there's a solution. You might not love it but hey you will be able to get back to you desktop within 60 mins.
Take your Bootable XP cd and insert it in the cd/dvd drive. Turn on your pc and you will see something like that"Press any key to boot or del to boot", well do that.
Insall a fresh XP on a drive other than in which your previous locked XP is. Do not format the hard disk as you will lose the data forever.
After the installation is complete you can acces the hard drive from the newly installed XP. Now you can backup or take out your data from where it was and delete the previous XP.
Also rate me from your New XP
To format the pc you have to use the Bootable OS cd ( 98 0r Xp )
If you are using 98 then you have to insert the 98 bootable cd into the CD drive set the boot sequence in the BIOS to boot from CD optionand restart the pc after restarting you have to identify the cd-drive letter which also appears at the command prompt here you have to browse the cd using dir/p command and then change to win98 directory using cd win98 here at the prompt(>) type format C: if C is the drive letter of the Harddisk
(2)If you want to format Using XP which is much easier than the previou procedure insert the XP cd and restart the system continue with the installation procedure of xp at one stage it will ask for to select the drive where you want install the xp select the drive and that particular drive will be automatically formated after format it will restart at that time you can remove the cd and exit the installation
If you want to completly delete all the harddisk partition and create new partitions you can do that using the Disk manager cd( PC can be formated and create new partition using Bootable XP also)
I am sorry if these procedures are to much
Backup all the data from your C Drive. Insert the bootable XP disk and boot from the CD ROM. During the installation stage, when setup asks the location where you want to install XP, select you C drive and delete it. Now in the unpartitioned space, create a new logical drive, format it and install windows XP in there,
If you have an installer for an operating system like Windows XP, you just have to insert it and follow the directions given you. You will be asked at a certain stage if you will format the hard disk of the computer. Then that's the time you choose format to erase whatever data is in your disk. You have to make sure that you save your important files before doing so.
you have either got a faulty hard drive if it stops just after the initial setup files installation, or your processor or motherboard is faulty if it just stops before you even get to the file install stage, but it is a process of illimination i'm afraid.
