Hi,

I was hoping to consult on you regarding a Network Security issue. Should this be acceptable, I tried adding you up in Yahoo Messenger.

Many thanks in advance.

I understand, if and when then, though I was hoping through some other means of contact other than this. Will catch you later. You have a good rest.

    Cheers.

I don't user IM since the earlier days of ICQ and beta testing was over.

As to network security I may be of help but I cannot guarantee that.

I'm in GMT-7 so I'm pretty exhausted and about to get some sleep. Can this wait until later for a response from me? You can go ahead and ask me what you have but you won't get a message for at least 8-10 hours.

Thanks. It was a really long day yesterday, and naturally rather then just kicking back, I power up the notebook and watch the board.

After what I've been through lately with a bad allergic reaction, these drugs my doctor has me taking until Fall is over here in the high desert my vision is more blurred than I'm used to and these glasses I use are tri focal progressives.

Is there a particular need for communicating off site, that I'm not aware of or is it simply the hassle of getting email responses? I use FF and have the Reload Every extension installed. When I post a question to another expert, after posting I navigate back, reload the page and then set the reload utility to reload every 1 minute. I often see the entry on page reloads way before I get the email.

BTW, I was in the Navy during Vietnam and on an aircraft carrier. When we got a break from the action, we always came to Subic Bay for refitting and supplies. There we exhausted men got some time off, usually about five day. We were just outside of the infamous Olongopo City. Once, I got to know my way around, a buddy and I would get away from there and get out into the country until Military Law was enacted and we couldn't travel like we wanted to . I came to love your country. It is so beautiful and the people were so gracious and polite. Oh, there were a few exceptions, but I've always wanted to return and NOT stay at some resort designed for Americans. I have many friends who were also in the PI, during the military and many married Fillipina's (sp?) and are my neighbors and business members in our area.

Saw your new Avatar image and it reminded me of taking my daughter on little rides up the driveway on my motorcycle when she was little. She now owns a Harley.

The Setup Wizard will now prompt you to automatically
configure your IP settings (recommended) and enter a
security key if the network you are connecting to is an
encrypted network. Enter the key and click Continue.
If you do not know the security key of the network you are connecting to, consult your network administrator.

Wn2000rpt refurbished installation

I found this answer online - but I didn't save where - I did add to it a bit after the ** Leah DH(:

Netgear WN2000RPT Setup Instructions

Maybe since I purchased a refurbished Netgear WN2000RPT it didn't come up with setup instructions but once I emailed support they quickly responded with the info below and it worked immediately.

Do this setup and your Netgear WN2000RPT range extender will work:

1. With the help of a paper clip, press the reset button on the back of the extender for 20 seconds (please refer to the label on the bottom of the extender for reset button location). Release the reset button after 20 seconds and turn off the extender. Turn the extender on after few seconds.
2. Connect the extender to the computer with an Ethernet cable. Make sure that there is no connection between your router and the computer either wired or wireless. (I did this part by turning off the antenna to my laptop)**I went to the Network and Sharing Center and on the left click on "Change Adapter Settings" after that right click on your Wireless Network Connection and choose "Disable". Don't forget to re-enable when you're done.
3. Open a browser to start the Smart Wizard. **I had to use Internet Explorer and compatibility mode
4. Please select your Preferred Language and click on continue.
5. Let the Extender detect the list of networks available in the locality.
6. Select your network and note down the security assigned for your network and click on continue
7. Type in the security key for your network, please note that if you have WPA security assigned on your network type the network key in passphrase box and if you have WEP security setup on your network type in the network key in the Key1 box and click on continue. **I've read elsewhere NOT to use WEP security with this extender.

(Read this one carefully)
8. Assign a name for the Extender as per your choice, also make sure that option "Use the Same security and passphrase as those for the existing network" is checked and then click on continue. **Under the step #3 Configure Extender I had to right click and refresh because there was no "continue" button!
9. Let the smart wizard establish the connection. On the next screen Click on the button "I have connected to the extender network" and click on continue.
10. Now click on the finish button to close the page.
11. It should ask you to save the page as bookmark, please save the page for future use.
12. Now open a new browser and check if you are online. (turn your antenna back on)**Re-enable your Wireless Network Connection.
13. You can now unplug the Ethernet cable from the extender and scan for the SSID of the extender and connect to it using the same network key as for you existing router.

Netgear WN2000RPT Setup

The most important part of the Netgear WN2000RPT setup is that you should NOT just plug it in and use the setup wizard. The setup does not make it clear what you should do when you get to the page with Key 1, Key 2, Key 3 & Key 4. If you follow the directions above which I got by emailing to ask about Netgear WN2000RPT setup then it will work the first time without any problem at all. Just read the Netgear WN2000RPT setup instructions above carefully first and then go through the step by step setup instructions slowly, one at a time and be sure you do exactly what it says. If you follow the directions above you will find that you can do your Netgear WN2000RPT setup without any problem at all.

Need More Help?

Need more help? Don't call me! I only know that this worked for me and it was super easy to follow the directions. I don't work for Netgear and I'm not really a techie.

I own a Florida ad agency.

Hi, I just got Linksys WRE54G V.3 and was trying to install the CD. But I keep getting "Site Survey fail" message. My house is using a router made by Apple, and does not have extra space to...

The range expander helps to extend the range of wireless network...
Anyhow the range expander has to be placed withing the range of your Apple "wireless" router (Make sure your apple router is wireless router, if it is a wired router, then there is no use of range expander...! U need to buy an Access Point instead)...
your range expander must be connected to the computer(using an ethernet cable) from which you are trying to configure...
Site survey searches for the available wireless networks in range...
It should show your existing wireless network...
You need to select your appropriate network and you need to configure the Range expander wireless settings according to the Apple router's wireless settings...
exactly the same SSID(Network name), Security type and encryption technique, password PSK (security key) has to be selected on your range expander as in the APPLE wireless router...
Thats it...
You are done...
Your wireless network range would have extended now....

Can't install yahoo messenger

Step1 Close all other applications running on your computer, except your Internet browser. Step2 Go to the Yahoo website and click on the "Messenger" button on the right side of the page. Click on the button that says “Download Now.” This will take you to the download page. Step3 Read the instructions on the page, and then click the “Get Started” button. A download page will appear which may give you a choice of saving or running the program. You can save it to your Desktop and install it yourself or click run and let it automatically install and open the installation dialog box. Step4 Select the things you want to install. Yahoo! Messenger with Voice downloads Yahoo! Toolbar with Anti-Spy and Pop-Up Blocker and makes Yahoo your default search engine for Internet Explorer. If you use a web browser other than Internet Explorer, you may have to reset your preferences after you download Messenger. Step5 Click “Next” and read the installation dialog box when it pops up. Check the box when asked if you accept the License Agreement and Terms. It won’t install if you don’t check this box. Step6 Allow the program to install. At the end of installation, you’ll have the opportunity to personalize your Yahoo! Messenger with Voice through the Preferences section.

when using the AP you have to make sure you set the SSID, channel & wireless key in the AP the exact same as the router and make sure when configuring the Ap that you set the default gateway as the IP address of the router.
