New laptops need new operating system. XP drivers(year 2000) are not enough for newer laptops. You may try internet to see if there are better drivers for XP on your laptop.

SOURCE: downgrade dell 1370 (13z) OS from W7 to XP

This can be difficult with some computers. Drivers may not be available.
Is this a Dell Inspiron 1370 with Intel chipset?
There are SOME drivers available for XP with this computer. Please check each driver where it says 'Verify Operating system'. make sure you have ALL the drivers you need, decompressed & copied to a CD, DVD or USB stick, BEFORE you attempt to load XP. Save all your data first!

Here is the Dell link for available drivers:

(Hint: Paste the full link into notepad, make it one line, copy again and paste into your browser)

SOURCE: I downgraded my Toshiba L650-15g

Hi there!
There are two possible driver for your Toshiba L650 sound device. One is from ATI and the other one is from Conexant. (click on the name to download the driver compatible)
Try installing the ATI first. If that doesn't work, then install the one from Conexant.
Hope this helps.

You will need to back up your files and settings on another hard drive or device and do a full installation of Windows xp. Windows 7 does not support upgrading or downgrading to Windows xp at this time.

DOWNGRADING INSTRUCTIONS OF TOSHIBA L310 SATELLITE

The process is the same as you would install XP on a clean machine.

The problem you might have is you may not have all the proper XP drivers for the hardware on your laptop.

You can go to the below link which has a good guide on downgrading from vista to XP (provide you with 3 options as well)

Dell Inspiron 1525 buzzing sound

As you mentioned that you have downgraded to windows xp, did you change the sata operations to ATA mode from AHCI mode in bios before installing XP? If you have done this then try and reinstall webcam driver and also the audio driver. If possible get into device manager to check if all drivers are working fine.

Downgrade from Vista TO Xp

Hi Bienana,

Steps must be taken in advance. Laptops are different from desktops. They have proprietary drivers that need to be available for boot or bad things happen. For example the CD-ROM won't be there any more. Then how will you load anything?

What you will have is a plastic rectangle that keeps asking for an operating system you can't install.

First, create a boot disk.
Second, create another boot disk.
Test them both. Make sure the CD works.

Now for some alternatives to formatting your hard drive.

Click here for a site thats offering Windows XP recovery CD's to those Vista owners that want XP. The offer is good through July 31, 2009.

Click here For the Toshiba site specifically for downgrading Vista to XP. It's a source for the drivers that inevitably don't get copied, what rights you have for which version and so on.

Both sites will give you some important insight before you take the plunge.
