Question about Washing Machines
The washer fills and drains with no problems when it starts to wash the clothes it turns both ways fine for a couple rotations then it stops and won't turn one direction. i took the back panel off and spun the tub manually. It spins fairly easily until you get to one point where it is really hard to turn and seems to make a rubbing noise to get past that spot. Any ideas on how to fix this?
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.

SOURCE: Maytag washer will not spin
If your washer does everything but does not spin, it is your outlet filter which is blocked. Locate this and clean out, it has to work fine. Refer user's manual.

Is this unit new? I had a frigidaire that would really get to going on the spin cycle. Got the clothes really dry and sounded like a jet engine if no clothes were in it. Is it a whisling sound or screeching sound...The sound could be coming from the water pump. It may have something in it that is dragging. Some you can take the bottom off of and clean them out..

SOURCE: maytag se1000 washer
sounds like the brake is not engaging properly(locks the tub for agitiation) wouldn't say transmission just yet, don't know the age but probably a few hundred dollar repair, i would recommend a maytag guy to do the repair, requires special brake tools and such,

ftp://ftp.electrolux-na.com/ProdInfo_PDF/Webster/5995522231.pdf here is apart break down of your unit. if you scroll down to pg 10 you see the inner baket assy, chances are youve snapped parts(14)which screw into (15). perhaps you found a broken screwhead inside the tub after laundry was done? id remove the agitator screw down the shaft and it will be quite apparent
