The iPod's shuffle feature lets you randomize playback of albums, songs or even your entire music library. You may also find this feature useful if you want to listen to forgotten tracks in your library or discover songs you haven't listened to yet. Disabling the shuffle feature will return playback of a song list to its standard consecutive order. You can enable and disable the shuffle feature at any time.
Navigate to the main menu. Select "Settings." Scroll to the "Shuffle" option. Select "Songs" or "Albums." If you select "Songs," the iPod Classic will shuffle the songs on whatever song list you listen to. If you select "Albums," the iPod Classic will play all songs of an album you select in order and then randomly select another album. Navigate to the playlist or album to which you want to listen. Play a song to initiate the shuffle. b> iPod Nano and iPod Touch Tap the "Songs" icon on your nano home screen. If you are using an iPod Touch, open the "iPod" application. You have songs that may be protected or the wrong format for your device. delete the bad song and download another copy from a different source and try it. This is not to uncommon due to different file formats and protection in the song files When you rip songs from another device often some won't load or play in another device especially if they are paid for songs.
This usually indicates that the content you are trying to listen to has digital rights associated with the media. This woud normally be the case if the content was downloaded via a subscrition service such as Napster or Rapsody, which means you are basically "renting" the song instead of buying it. In order to validate that the subscription for that media is still valid (i.e. you have paid for the subscription) you must sync the device with the service on a periodic basis. For example, with NapsterToGo you must sync a device at least every 30 days to validate the subscription.
The songs are in the wrong format - they need to be stripped of their DRM license (illegal) or converted to mp3 format. The best, most legal way to do this is to redownload the songs as an Mp3 file, or re-rip your CD's in Windows Media Player in Mp3 format.

allow you to play a song for a certain length of time. You would have to pay
extra to continue using the song after that trial period is over – the time
length ranges from a few days to several months or longer.
That means you will have to sync your devicce in oder to play the songs on the device..what you will have to do is to transfer one new track that you download to your device...then once you finish transfer it the tracks, it should update every single tracks on the device...if that doesnt solve the problem you are having..what you will have to do is to format the player using windows media player then once you format it transfer the tracks over and the should be playing...

i solved my problem, i think, by reformatting the player. the iriver tech help offered several methods to reformat, which didn't work. but this did: settings,--advanced,--format device. this will delete everything on the player, but now it can sync successfully.
