Question about Dryers

1 Answer

Power problem Hi; Can anyone help me figure this out. I have burned two of the control boards for my dryer already. First i assumed that it was time for the original control board to go bad, but after I replaced that one, the second one went "puff". Before all of that I have replaced the termination block and I think I mixed those cables somehow. I'm including this picture and hoping this is that problem and one of you guys can help me out. Thanks Mike

YIKES!!

Put the white wires on the center lug. Take the blue wires and put them on the right lug. Leave the black wires where they are.

I'm surprised you didn't do more damage than the control board. Make sure the power terminals stay the way they are.

Dryer will run but it will not heat?

Heating cycle failure...

a) Heating element faulty.

b) One of the safety switches (Thermal fuse / High temp cut off etc) has burned out.

c) Rare case... Control board not giving power to heating circuit. Control board failure.

d) Heating sensor issues. Try the time dry to see there is heat instead of auto cycle. May be your heat sensing thermistors....

But mostly either above a) or b) reason.

The control panel will not work, no lights on panel.

First make sure you house fuse or breaker didn't trip. If you have power to the dryer house outlet, next check the connections where the big 220 volt power cord goes into the dryer. Should be a small access cover you can take off to look at the power cord connections. Sometimes when they are first installed they are not put on tight. Over time they over heat and burn at the connectors. If either side is burned that may be your problem. If all connectors are good, you could have 2 possible circuit boards bad. 1 would be the display board itself (the one with the touch screen) or the main PCB board under the control panel in a tan looking cover box.

Kenmore 94082 gas dryer: Runs a short time, then stops, E9E error

The error code E9E indicates that low voltage is being detected at the control board of the dryer.

This could be caused by the following factors:

* The electrical power supply to the dryer is bad. Check the dryer outlet for proper voltage (120 volts AC).

* Unplug the dryer and check the wiring of the dryer outlet plug. A loose wire on the terminal block could cause this problem.

* If you are able to safely access the control board in the console, check the red wire that connects to the heater relay on the board.

(NOTE: The dryer should always be unplugged when accessing internal components.)
A loose wire or burned connection in this area could result in this error code.

* A failed control board could cause this problem.

In my case, the problem was a dead main board. The board cost $190 and the overall repair cost $335. I will never buy another Whirlpool due to this experience.

Follow up on an earlier problem

I have had the same problem over the past several months. Typically it would clear itself out (clear 8.8. on display) after several minutes. Today it reoccurred but this time it would not clear. I knew it was a problem with the control board. So I removed the control board and discovered that the capacitor for the 5VDC power had ?popped?. I replaced the capacitor and every thing worked! Hope this helps.
