Hiya! Just wondering if anybody can help me with this problem! Firstly the camera appears to be recording fine but when it is played back on either the lcd or through the tv the timer skips back and forth making the picture jumpy and unclear! Choppy recording and playback

If the heads become dirty, “NEED HEAD
CLEANING” appears during recording. During
playback, moreover, the following symptoms
≥Mosaic-like noise appears partially or the
sound is interrupted.
≥Black or blue mosaic-like horizontal stripes

When normal playback cannot be performed
even after the head cleaning
One possible cause is that normal recording
could not be performed because the heads were
dirty at the time of recording. Clean the heads,
and perform recording and playback again. If
normal playback can be performed, the heads are
clean. Before an important recording, be sure to
conduct a test recording to make sure that normal
recording can be performed.
≥If the heads become dirty soon after cleaning,
the problem may be the tape. If so, try another
≥During playback, the picture or sound may be
interrupted momentarily, but this is not a
malfunction of the Camcorder. (One possible
cause is that the playback is interrupted by dirt
or dust that momentarily adheres to the heads.)

When ever the ZR500 is shaken, it turns off.

I think that when you shake it, the battery tends to move around and makes the camera lose power and when you stop shaking the battery settles and runs normally.

According to Sony support, you should follow these next steps: 1. Ensure the batteries are fully charged or the AC power adapter is connected. 2. Remove any media (tape, Memory StickĀ®, DVD, etc.) from the camcorder. 3. Properly reinsert the media. 4. Ensure the media compartment is properly closed. 5. If the problem continues, try inserting different media. In addition according to your post it is very likely that you busted the tape mechanism. In this case only a certified technician can help you. I hope you work it out
