When i try to print the printer goes through start up the pap-er jam light come on and will not continue
If the printer take in one side of the paper and then stop or jam, then most probably something, small item was caught or trapped in between the roller or wheel

To fix this kind of error, remove the ink cartridge and turn the printer upside down and gently shake it.Check if anything comes out.If nothing goes, or you can't hear anything rattling around, get a piece of card stock paper (60lb or heavier) and gently push this through the printer, to see if it will help push out what might be stuck in there. Open up the printer and clean the insides with a soft cloth and a brush. That should remove all the bits of paper inside.The teeth on the roller sides may have some dirt stuck on them which does not allow the rollers to roll freely and hence is as bad as paper jam. The idea is that the rollers do not roll whether because of paper or some dirt on the roller teeth. They have to be cleaned.

Clean The Paper Feed Rollers Using The Unit's Operation Panel
If
the paper feed roller is dirty, paper is not fed properly because the
paper feed roller slips. Cleaning the paper feed roller could resolve
the paper feeding problem. Please follow the instructions below to
clean the Paper Feed Rollers directly from the unit.
Caution:
Since the cleaning process wears down the paper feed roller, perform
this procedure only when necessary and no more than three (3) times.

Note: This procedure is skipped if your machine is in Scan mode. Proceed to step 5.
Note: If paper is not fed properly, repeat steps 4 through 10 above up to three times.
Press the <Feed Switch> button to switch to toggle between the Automatic Sheet Feed (ASF) or Cassette. The light will come on when the <Feed Switch> is set for that paper source.

HEY THERE GUY'S THE EASIEST SOLUTION I CAN TELL YOU TO DO IS CALL CANON COMPLAIN THE'Y WELL MAKE YOU DO A COUPLE OF THINGS THATS SUPPOSED TO CORRECT THE ISSUE: LIKE ROLLER CLEANING A COUPLE OF TIMES, CLEAN THE ROLLER WITH ALCHOL, TURN EVERYTHING OFF AND SHAKE THE MACHINE A LITTLE AND TURN IT BACK ON TO SEE IF THAT WORKS AND FINALLY IF THAT DOESNT WORK THEY TELL YOU TO UNISTALL THE DRIVER AND REINSTALL IT!! WELL MAYBE FOR SOME OF YOU THESE STEPS MIGHT WORK!! BUT L'M TELLING YOU IVE PERSONALLY NOTICED CANON'S PRINTERS ARE ****!!! I'VE GONE THREW 2 PRINTERS SINCE DECEMBER LAST YEAR AND THEY SENT ME OUT A 3RD ONE FREE OF CHARGE!!! I TOLD THEM I HAD A CANON MP 150 FOR YEARS THAT I PRINTED EVERYTHING ON IT AND I STILL CAN EVEN AFTER MY DROPED IT AND BROKE A COUPLE OF THINGS ON IT!! SO FAR I HAVE USED THE MP470 WHICH IS GARBAGE!! What this light sequence means that the printer has a paper jam.
When a paper jam occurs, the printer stops and the operator panel's Paper Jam light and Continue button lights come on. Press and release Continue twice quickly to display the specific secondary error paper jam light sequence.
How to clear Paper Jam
?· Press Continue button twice quickly to see the secondary error code.
To get the secondary error codes
?· When the Error light (!) and Continue button lights are both on, a secondary error has occurred.
?· When the Paper Jam light (4th light) and Continue button lights are both on, a paper jam secondary error has occurred.
?· Press and release Continue button twice quickly to display the secondary error code light sequence.
Press Continue button to resume printing once all the jammed pages are cleared from the paper path.
We recommend that you clear the entire paper path when a paper jam occurs.
To clear a paper jam:
1 If you are feeding paper from a tray, remove the tray, and then remove any jams.
2 Open the front cover and remove the print cartridge assembly.
NOTE: Do not leave the print cartridge assembly exposed to direct light for an Extended period of time. Extended light exposure can cause print quality problems.
3 Remove any jams in the area behind the print cartridge assembly.
4 Lift the flap at the front of the printer and remove any jams beneath the flap.
5 Open the rear exit and remove any jams.
6 After you have cleared the jams, reinstall the print cartridge assembly, make sure all printer covers and trays are closed, and then press Continue button to resume printing.
NOTE: The printer reprints the pages that caused the paper jam.
When you experience a paper jam, it is recommended that you check and clear the entire paper path. To clear a paper jam, do the following:
