Garmin 1340T boot loop issue. The unit

Garmin 1340T boot loop issue. The unit continuously boots and shuts down. i've tried the reset procedures (touching the upper left corner in one case lower right in another case, both without connecting to a usb) and it doesn't help. it continues to loop through the boot process until the battery dies. when i plug it in a usb charger, it starts again. the loop itself lasts about 25-30seconds. the web upgrade software does not see the device, so not possible that way. windows neither. would you have a solution for this? thanks

Hi,

Unfortunately, there isn't an easy solution for the Nuvi owner as it requires a custom piece of firmware to flash the unit to make it at least boot. This problem is often caused during a failed firmware and/or map update.

It sounds like a file was corrupted. Sometimes it is better to connect the unit up to a PC, delete the old map and then proceed to install the new one. There are so many issues with memory space causing failed downloads and corrupted files.

If the map file is missing, the unit will boot-up OK, it will just say "Map data unavailable" but if the map file or associated map files are corrupted, it can cause the unit to crash. Your PC won't recognize the Nuvi because you have the reach the main screen before the data communication mode routines are accessed.

We've had some success in restoring some of these units by flashing a "fix" firmware in "pre-boot mode" that doesn't try to load the map or map associated files. This should then allow the unit to boot. Once the unit boots, Windows will recognize it and then you can copy a map over to it from the PC. Reboot the unit and then flash it with the standard firmware.

thanks for the explanation. if i understand it correctly, unless i can get my hands on the fix firmware, there is no solution for the gps. would you be able to provide me with this fix firmware or is the unit lost?

No, what I am saying is that there is no magical button to press to easily fix this issue. I have been repairing Garmin units since 2007. How can I contact you directly other than through this forum? via Email?

i am in no way questioning your credentials/expertise. is there any chance you could fix this remotely? thanks

it has been six days since i first posted my question, and the answers that i received are (1) that it's isn't easily done, (2) that person's has been fixing Garmins since 2007 and (3) an invitation to communicate outside this forum.

i do not find any of these satisfactory resolutions of my issue and would like to request a refund.

Gamin nuvi 1450 wonot start and the gamin express cannot recognize it

Your Nuvi has to boot past the Garmin logo to the main screen before it can be recognized by your PC. Is the unit dead? The Nuvi 14xx series is well known for its problem with the rear USB port coming loose. This will prevent the unit from receiving power from the external charger and will prevent the battery from being charged. If the unit goes into a boot-up loop, displaying the Garmin logo then shuts down, this is often caused by corrupted files, such as a map or bad firmware update. See these two links for more info:

My LG Shine boots up to a stage and shuts down to begin to reboot again and continues to do this without actually booting completely. It will boot to a stage without the sim card and just stop at that...

sounds like you may need to reset the phone, this may solve the loop issue, but you may loose some of the data in the phone.

reboot the phone, while in the boot up process, press 1880, then let it sit.

hope this helps.

It can not be reset. The unit has to be flashed with a service firmware to access the units flash drive. Then the missing or corrupted files need to be replaced. This is why the unit is crashing on boot-up.

Once the files have been restored then the unit can be reflashed with the factory standard firmware.

The problem you have right now is that the unit can not be found by your PC because its in an endless loop-boot-up and never reaches the main screen to detect that it is connected to a PC.

Garmin froze on erase

Hello,

Try performing a soft and or hard reset on the GPS.
The soft reset is done with the unit disconnected from the power cord, press and hold the power button down for at least 10 seconds until the Garmin screen is displayed.

The hard reset is done with the unit disconnected from the power cord and the unit off, press and hold the lower right corner of the screen and press the power button. A prompt will appear asking "Do you really want to erase all user data?". This will erase all favorites that were saved to the unit. Press yes to reset the unit to factory specifications.

Run the Garmin WebUpdater program to install or reinstall the latest software for your device. This will usually fix any issues.

Be sure to download the correct version for PC or Mac.

My Garmin Nuvi 255 died. How do I reset it?

Hello there:
If you unplug the unit and remove the battery
i would check the fuse inside the unit to be sure that it is ok if it is than
leave it unplugged and the batttery out for 30 min and if there is a reset button on this after the battery is removed hold in the reset in for 2 minutes then after the 30 min replace the battery and plug in the unit and try it again his should be enough time for the internal reset to reset it'self than just replace the battery and if this still oes not help remove the battery again and leave it sit for 1 hour to let the internal reset device reset it'self ok and you should be good to go
Hope this is very helpful
Best regards Michael

Did you try the reset button on lower left side of player? I use a twist tie and cut paper or plastic off tip to press button.

Powers up for 1 to 2 seconds shuts itself off

probably a boot loop, hold down the f8 key when you turn it on untill you see a boot menu and select "safe mode", if you can get it to start there, you should be able to shut it down and have it start normaly the next time. if not hold down f8 again and select "last known good configuration". if it still continues to loop after that, you will have to reinstall windows.

How can i turn on my zen

The reset button cap on the lower left side of the unit may be jammed, causing the reset switch it activates to be come stuck.

This will put the unit into a loop in which it continually restarts.

You'll never see any sign of life if this occurs.

Be sure you see the "RESET" stencil or that may not be the reset button.

I've seen people poke paper clips their devices' microphone or speaker openings!

Be very careful when pushing the reset so that the button cap goes straight down.

If yours is stuck, unstick it, then it should come on if the battery is charged.

Then be sure to give it a FULL charge before using it, because while the button was stuck, power was being consumed.

Be sure to remove the rubber boot / skin before trying to reset the unit.

Are you running this unit while it is charging? Does the Nuvi 660 have a sufficient charge?

Try to do a hard reset on the unit.
