STUCK VHS TAPE

If you know how to do this open the latch on the cassette when it stops and look to see if something got spilled into or on the tape itself.

If the unit only shuts off with this tape the cassette is the issue.

If you open the door on the tape (little square button to release the door also look (happens if you use same tape a lot and fast scan with it) to see if the bottom edge of the tape has curved waves in it--should be perfectly flat with no ripples at bottom edge of the tape.

Tape is stuck

Tapes commonly get stuck in cam operated transports. The belt gets too lose and can not turn the attached cam gear- it is easy to release a tape- you open the unit up and remove the power first. Find the pulley that has a loose belt on it and turn it by finger- do not apply a lot of force just about what the belt would do. At some point the deck will open. Then you can remove the tape.

How to take out stuck tape ?

This is not a cheao deck and taking out the tape will depend on the manner in which the tape is stuck. Is the tape wound int the cassette completely? If not, then the unload sequence never completed and that needs to be done by hand or the tape and possibly the mechanism will be damaged.

Can you provide additional details about the exact condition please?

Thanks,
Dan

Stuck tape

The tape won't come out when resetting the drive. Error 6 is serious.
To get out the tape you must open the drive. But IBM has a discription online (and in the user manual) how you can do this.

Stuck tape in camcorder

I had a similar problem with an older panasonic camera. Mybe you have tried this, but opening the door and pushing up on the tape. Push in and use enough force but don't try to break it. Try pressing different spots. Sooner or later the motor might start moving it up. Just a though, it worked for me.
